Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803

2018-05-01, 17:34 PM

Lenovo devices tested for Windows 10 version 1803 (April, 2018) can be found in the following link:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht506455?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6&Source=social_eservices&Medium=FBPAGE&Term=eServices_&Content=20180501_20180501171243&linkId=51177113

The Yoga Book is not yet included in the list. Maybe it hasn't been fully tested yet or there may be issues or bugs regarding the update. I have received the update but I'd rather wait until the Yoga Book gets included in the list.

I've updated two yoga books using a usb created with MCT and installed  by running the setup.exe file keeping files and applications.

I don't use haptic feedback -  the update left it switched off - I haven't tested it switched on. Haven't tested much at all but no obvious signs of any problems. (Updated other laptops and no real problems with them either.)

Lenovo won't say it's supported unless and until they've tested it - who knows when or if that might be.

I've updated my Yoga Book to 1803 today and have been using it for the past 2 hours. Nothing seems to be strange and everything is working as it should. The update process went painfully slow but that is totally expected.

Will post back if I encounter any problem as a result of the update. ?

I think generally (not just Yoga Books) it speeds up the process if you take the option early on not to download updates now. The updates seem to get done later anyway and quicker. (But it could be my imagination - by later in the process I've stopped watching the proverbial kettle boil.)

So according to Lenovo, the Yoga Book is still not supported? I don't see it in the list of the supported devices with the April 2018 Update.

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803

I'm having trouble getting 1803 to install on the Yoga Book I bought this week.

Each time I use windows update, it downloads it, starts installing it, then at some point (a few hrs later) it just fails and says it needs to install it again.

Done this 3x now.

Some folks mentioned using MS's Media Creation Tool to do a fresh install (as the latest MCT installs v1803+), but I wondered if I'd have driver problems, where's it going to get the windows key from, etc.

So, anyone got any tips on sorting this out? (...other than returning the Yoga Book to Amazon and buying something different)

Cheers.

It's strange that you are unable to update your Yoga Book via Windows Update. What is the Windows version that is currently installed? Have you done any manual updates?

You can manually install Windows 10 version 1803 via the Media Creation Tool. Windows should automatically activate when you install the right copy of Windows 10 (Win10 Pro, Home). All the drivers can be found on Lenovo's support page.

If you do an update saving files and settings through the media creation tool route the old drivers will remain (at least if they are not ones that are part of the update). I've routinely used this as my method of doing all these major updates (because I have a number of computers to update mostly) and had few problems. As I recall it's only settings for the trackpad getting switched back to default and the usual ploughing through the settings menu to check things are how I prefer and removing new bloatware that's been a pain about it for me.

I should add I routinely do a system backup of the Yogabook before the updates - just in case, but not needed them.

If you have important data I'd suggest backing it up seperately - in case data gets lost even though the update has been successful. Again I've never had to use it but sometimes it's not worth taking the chance.

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update 1803

Finally got the April update installed, only to find out that the Yoga book doesn't recognise concurrent keypresses.

E.g. Press and hold key 1, tap (or hold) another key then release it... on normal keyboards the system would recognise that you're still holding key 1. The Yoga Book doesn't.

That rules it out for almost all gaming unless you're using a controller (BT/USB). It also explains why the typing experience on it is pretty bad - it just can't keep up with even average touch typing.

(Also: the touchpad is also super flakey, so I wouldn't even like to try a point/click on it.)

So, it's getting returned.

Hopefully the Yoga Book 2 will be much more than the Yoga Book.
