Yoga Book - other pens compatible or softer nib for real pen?

2016-10-17, 14:37 PM

Hi,

or there other pens (from Wacom) available that are compatible with the digitizer that is built into the tablet part of the Yoga Book?

Or is there a softer nib available for the Real Pen, especially when writing directly on the screen I would prefer it.

Best, Adrian

There was some discussion here about this a while ago but I couldn't track it down to add a link.

Basically pens that use EMR technology will work on the Halo pad. This includes some Wacom pens (I don't use them so I don't know which ones), S pens from Samsung (all or just some, I'm not sure). HP made a laptop with a pen that works on the Halo pad apparently. Not all (or any perhaps) will work on the touchscreen as well however - to do that they need to be made of a suitable material (even an ordinary pencil can work) and make sufficient contact with the screen. Lenovo put information about that in their blurb somewhere. Which may have softer tips, I don't know. As I recall there weren't any noted in the earlier discussions.

thanks for the quick reply! yeah I'm more interested in the other pen stuff, since not having buttons on the pen really kills the fun. I found a twitter account.@jawss made a post on twitter, and just confirmed "I'm using one from my old Samsung slate 7 and it works, I've also tried the galaxy note 4 S-Pen and it works as well. :)" so I might order one of these and give feedback

crossing in from twitter  :)

FYI, i use the pens i mentioned on the "create pad" not the screen. As mentioned above, the screen is pretty much like capacitive touch on steroids because you can use other stuff as a pen if they are mildly conductive. AnyPen technology won't give you the accuracy of the stylus on the create pad, however.

The button on the galaxy note 4 S-Pen may not have the sort of functions you require - basically just launching apps. It doesn't do mouse clicks etc. It also doesn't work on the touchscreen.

But you can get hold of them quite cheaply so it can be worthwhile, if only as a lightweight reserve.

(Thinking about it this actually may apply to any buttons on other pens.)

I've checked it out now - you do get more options for the buttons if you install the Wacom Feel driver, this also gives some control over pen sensitivity which may compensate for the lack of a softer tip on the pen.

(If you google "Wacom Feel driver" you should find it easily enough.)

I'm mostly interested in functions that Surface Pen has, most importantly eraser and marking text - does that work with the galaxy 4 pen and the wacom driver?

The galaxy note 4 S-Pen only has one button. So it would be an either or option. Erase is listed as one of the options so I presume it works but I haven't tested it. Marking text is not.

It would do no harm to install the Wacom Feel driver anyway - although there's no buttons on the Lenovo pen the sensitivity option can be helpful. You can then see what the options offered are for yourself. It's not a big program and doesn't seem to bring other issues with it.
