Yoga book reboot issue

2017-11-23, 4:15 AM

Yoga book (YB1-X91L)

For some reasons, I cannot login to windows and I lost the reboot or recovery data. Then I downloaded a Microsoft boot file.

But when I enter the first page, I found I can't use any external keyboard or mouse!

In addition, besides BIOS settings, other option is not able to use.

I don't know how I can do, please anyone tell me.

Aren't you able to use the touch screen in the BIOS screen? Any errors when you turn your device on?

If you can access the BIOS so you can do a system reset.

To access the BIOS, hold volume up (the one closer to the screen) and the power button together.

I can use touch screen in the BIOS setting, but I can't use touch in Windows setup Page. Wait, let me attach a picture which the page is.

Unless you've done something in the bios setting to disable the touch screen it would probably be easiest to attach a usb keyboard using an OTG adapter cable (an OTG cable is cheap and useful to have anyway).

Once you've actually set up windows, if the touch screen isn't working then it will be easier to deal with or see if there is a fault. You could look to see if it is listed in the device manager or not, update or install drivers if necessary etc.

I've had to do it this way in the past when installing windows from scratch on a tablet. (Usually, once you're past the first reboot in the installation process you don't need the media device attached anymore so the usb socket is free.) The halo keyboard won't be usable until it's drivers are installed and windows may not be able to do that itself.

Well I think it's normal what you are experiencing. Normally, you would be able to navigate through the BIOS using the touch screen, but that is not the case in the Windows installation process.

I really think you need an external mouse plugged in through an OTG cable. For the keyboard, the on-screen keyboard will do it.

Let us know if everything goes fine.

Best of luck ?

It is helpful to remember that you can navigate through the various inputs during installation using the tab keys and arrows if you are using a usb keyboard - so there may be different ways you can get round the issue.

Yes, I tried to use USB keyboard and mouse using OTG adepter, but it didn't work. I saw the BIOS settings modified and I reset to default. Then I will try one more time.

Mouse is still not able to use....

That's really weird as I've previously tried it and it worked for me. I suspect there's a problem with your OTG cable.

Now for the main problem, either send your device to repair especially if it's still under warranty or reset to factory settings from the BIOS menu.

That can fix any software problem you're experiencing.

If you're sure that you lost the recovery/reset files, I see no other options than installing Windows yourself. Try to buy a cheap OTG T-shape, one end for the usb stick and the other for mouse/keyboard.

It's not something I'd usually take much notice of but in your image there are no default settings shown for the time and currency and keyboard or input method which is perhaps odd.

Are you sure the media that you are installing from is good?

If it were just the input method field that is blank that would suggest that it can't find anything to get input from- but the other field would still have something in it by default I think. That's  the best thought I can come up with at the moment.

Resetting the bios to default sounds like a good idea so perhaps that will have worked for you?

I'd want to explore any "software" options before jumping to the idea it's a hardware issue.

(If you made a system backup perhaps it might be better to restore that and work from there to resolve whatever you were trying to do.)

By chance I happened to have to do a clean install on another laptop today and can confirm I would expect the fields on the for shown in your image should be filled with default values.
