Configuring Moto g 5G plus to operate in certain bands

Hello forum.

Recently I purchased Moto g 5G plus phone Model XT2075-3 with software build QPNS30.37-Q3-42-51-2.

This is a dual sim card, international model. My intent is for this phone to operate in CBRS bands B42 (3500), B43 (3600) or band B48 (which is combination of B42+B43). Specifications for this phone clearly state that it is capable of this as shown below:

Technology GSM / HSPA / LTE / 5G
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2 (dual-SIM model only)
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100
4G bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 26, 28, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 66
  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 26, 28, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 66
5G bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 28, 38, 41, 77, 78 SA/NSA
Speed HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE-A, 5G

Out of the box I've tried to force phone to operate in the desired band, but it does not. menu - does not provide for manual band selection - just regions. So I wonder if there is a software build that provides for manual band selection. Right now phone finds all the local carriers ATT, Sprint, Verizon, etc

Thank you

Hi RFmaster,

Thanks for posting your concern here. We do not have software build or a stock build that can force the phone to use a specific band.

Re:Configuring Moto g 5G plus to operate in certain bands

Okay, so let suppose we have a Base Station (BS)  operating in a frequency band which this phone (UE) is said to be capable of operating. Yet, the phone never scans these 'new' bands, hence never finds a BS for which it has a valid SIM.  When you first power up your phone or if signal coverage was lost phone has try to detect/search for a new cell, UE does not have any idea on which frequency it can find BS operating.  In simple terms it may have to perform of extensive search, scanning frequency bands for which it was designed for.  It is not apparent why there are limitations in a current scanning algorithm as it only scans a limited number of bands :(.   This would explain why people with valid SIM can't connect to their service providers BS!  For example Three in UK uses the following frequencies for their network:

800MHz 20 4G (LTE)
1400MHz 32 4G (LTE)
1800MHz 3 4G (LTE)
2100MHz 1 3G and 4G (LTE)
3400MHz n78 5G
3600-4000MHz n77 5G

If the phone is out of coverage of B20/B3/B1 and it does not scan N78 N77 it will never connect since it does not scan 'newer bands'. This is a huge problem for WW phone!!! Zeke, can you bring this up as a ticket for a next software build?

Thank you!

Re:Configuring Moto g 5G plus to operate in certain bands

Hi RFmaster

I would like to confirm, are you experiencing an actual network issue? May I know what's your carrier and please update your profile with the current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > System > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if in case we need to look into this further, and it's okay for me to look at your software/apps to see if they are a source of problems.

See here for the instruction. Thanks.

Best regards,

Re:Configuring Moto g 5G plus to operate in certain bands

Hi Rich

I'm actually a private LTE network developer. So updating MFN with my current phone, carrier and serial number is not appropriate in that sense.

We start with SIM card programmed with our MCC/MNC, Ki, OPC that matches our 5G Core and EPC, i.e. the core network of NR/LTE network (Release-16) configuration.  I have done this with a number of LTE modems to confirm connectivity and verify UE attachment / service to eNb.    So far we had 100% hit rate when LTE modem vendor states that UE is operable in our bands for UE attachment and LTE service data.  I am trying to get Moto G 5G plus to connect to eNb in B42/B43 using previously validated SIM card that was tested in another modem.  This is a first step of many!

Basic background: Phone is placed inside RF shielded room and eNb is configured to operate in a designated band (in our case we're using CBRS B42/B43) with antenna's placed within shielded room.  In this environment external signals are blocked and UE is exposed to see our test eNb and nothing else. Also we do not leak into outside RF spectrum.  All modems that I have validated have an option to configure which bands UE can operate in.   Moto does not have explicit band selection, but instead has a "Set Radio Band Mode" - see screen shot attached. What I need to have in this menu to have explicit band selections vs. regional settings that are not documented (which bands phone is allowed to operate)!

Thank you

Re:Configuring Moto g 5G plus to operate in certain bands

When you need to satisfy your cravings with something traditional then Taco Bell Quesadilla is the leading option. The Quesadillas Menu offers all-time favorites such as steak quesadilla and Chicken Quesadilla. It combines cheesy filling and steak marinades.

The chicken quesadilla menu comes with juicy and generous flavors. It includes a soft and warm tortilla and jalapeno sauce. The vegetarians can not neglect this menu and can add spices and cheddar cheese to enhance the taste further.

Moreover, the number of pieces in the meal can be of your choice and it makes it easier to handle quesadillas. You can ask for two or four pieces and consume them while using the forks and knives.

Taco Bell’s quesadillas are part of their experimentation and they added them into the restaurant menu for different outlets. All the classic flavors of this menu are well explained in this blog with the proper calories count and prices.
