Thanks, Tom and Zeke. I'm going to need a lot of help. This is my first ever smartphone. I downloaded the 40-page user guide, and it's useful, but I'm still puzzled about a number of things. Will explore the forum posts and then submit a new topic if needed.

Just a note: I found my initial rank in this forum, of "What is DOS?", highly amusing. I spent nearly 30 years as a systems manager, programmer and operator of DOS-based legacy (euphemism) programs. At first it was just white dots on a black screen; later we advanced to 16 colors! Never needed a mouse. Before that I was a certified IBM keypunch operator, back when computers were room-sized. That was such a different world.

moto g power (2021) - terrible battery life

2021-05-06, 16:43 PM

Hi, I recently "upgraded" from the 2019 moto g7 Power to the 2021 moto g Power.

Battery life is far less than on my old g!

Any use greater than moderate uses the whole battery in about 8 hours (after charging all night and starting at 100%) while using the exact same app set and settings on each.

Is this normal on the new g?  Thanks.

Hi right.coach

Battery life hours could depend on several factors. Here are some tips and ways you can try to extend the battery life of your phone. Make sure all apps are up to date in Play Store as well. See if there's improvement. Thanks.

Why does the moto g power (2021) really suck at battery life?

2021-05-08, 12:02 PM

Thanks for the reply, however, if you'll re-read my post you'll see that all of your suggestions do not pertain to my issue.  I did all of those things long ago.  I have 2 moto g's set up identically.  The new one lasts about 8 hours (100%>30%) with moderate use and the old one (g7 power 2019) lasts about 16 hours under similar use (Feedly, reading email, some texting, minor web searching, no social media at all.)  Is my battery or phone defective or does the moto g power (2021) just really suck at battery life?

Hi right.coach,

Please update your profile with current phone, carrier and IMEI -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.

OK, how is that going to help when, as I've explained, both old and new phones are set up and used in exactly the same way?  The tremendous disparity in battery life cannot be explained via installed apps.  I've carefully monitored which apps are using what % of power.  I believe my phone is faulty - has a bad battery and I REALLY want a replacement.  Can you help me with that?  Thank you.

We are asking to update your profile so we may take a look if there are background apps that might cause the battery drain. You can process a warranty claim for your device here. Let me know if you have questions or clarifications.
