Firmware Stuck at QPMS30.80-109-5

Hi there--

 

A few months back, I had to send my phone in to be replaced as it was randomly rebooting.  I received my new unit back in November of 2020 and it has been working great... except I'm not able to update beyond Security Patch level September, 2020.  I know that there are at least 2 newer firmware versions available for this phone - in fact, my wife has the same phone and hers is now running Android 11.  However, every time I check for over the air updates, it says I'm running the latest version.

 

I also downloaded the Rescue and Smart Assistant (v5.6.0.15) and when clicking the rescue tab, it shows the target firmware to be QPMS30.80-109-5, which is the same older version that it's currently running.  How can I go about getting this phone updated?  I really don't want to be stuck running ancient security updates.

 

The phone is a Moto G Power (2020 version) and is the unlocked version (at least that's what I originally purchased, direct from Motorola.com, so I assume the replacement unit I received is also the Unlocked version.)

Thanks for trying Rescue and Smart Assistant. The tool won't downgrade the software. May I know what's your current software build? We can check if you're on the correct build, kindly just please update your forum profile with the current IMEI or Serial number from your device and let us know if we can look at some things from our end as well. See here for the instruction. Please make sure that the options under Settings > Privacy > Motorola Privacy are on.

Hi there and thank you for the speedy reply.  The version of the software on the phone is the same as the one that the Rescue tool is trying to download - it doesn't give me an option for any newer versions.  The version is QPMS30.80-109-5.

 

I have updated my profile to include the IMEI of the phone.  The privacy settings are enabled on the phone as well.

I, too, have an unlocked Motorola Moto G Power (2020), which I purchased at Best Buy toward the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.

 

As part of setting up the new phone, I was doing my usual deep dive for useful information and tools, particularly ones related very specifically to this phone provided through "official" channels. In fact, that's how I discovered these forums, LOL!

 

During this exploration, I learned about and discovered the MFN (Motorola Feedback Network) program, and subsequently enrolled. One of the potential benefits appeared to be getting Android 11 a bit early so that I could test it out, provide feedback, etc.

 

I'm pretty sure that this is how I became one of the people that received Android 11 on this phone before many others. And, since receiving Android 11, I have definitely received other updates (such as the system security updates), that would not otherwise be available to me.

 

I've attached a screenshot showing some of my phone information for you (with personal information redacted in the red areas, and what's you're probably most interested in circled in green).

 

Perhaps doing something similar on your device would get you past your current hurdle. 😁

Hello, yeah the issue you're facing will not be fixed by joining the MFN. That being said, I believe you've been working with @MotoBecky to get your situation resolved. Please keep in contact with her as she is your best point of contact going forward for this case.

Got the replacement phone today and it updates without issue!  Definitely something wrong with the other phone.  Issue has been solved!
