Screencast Feature Nonfunctional

2020-10-05, 17:55 PM

Hello everyone,

I'm having issues with casting the screen from my Moto G Power to our Samsung Q80 series TV. 4 months ago the feature worked excellent. Now I get what is shown on the attached screenshots.

Hi IA50112DHK,

I will be happy to assist you with this. Is Chromecast connected to the TV when you were casting? We cannot guarantee for casting to work without the use of Chromecast.

Best regards,
Zeke

Unless something has changed from when it worked 4 months ago, I'm assuming the tv has Chromecast built into it.

I can see Google support gave you a less than helpful response - have you tried Samsung support?
Possible the TV had an update in the background without your knowing.
The TV specs indicate support for air play but I'm sure that's only for iPhones?

Thank you for your responses to this issue. To narrow down the problem I booted up my older XT1575 Moto X Pure Edition and cast it's screen to our tv and it worked fine. Attached is the photo of the tv screen from it. I believe the problem is in the Moto G Power phone.

Sorry, I failed to mention that the TV's firmware is up to date.

I also rebooted the phone in safe mode to make sure there are no other outside apps causing this and it still does not cast to the TV.

Kindly confirm if the TV has an inbuilt Chromecast. With your Moto X Pure Edition, are you able to cast movies or apps like Netflix? Let me know.

Regards,

Suman

Thanks Suman, My only intention with casting to our Samsung TV is to view materials off the internal memory of my phone like it did when it was new out of the box. Netflix and various other things like Hulu and all are handled through the smart TV itself. Other than that, yes Netflix will cast from both phones when the cast icon is clicked. I just cannot cast or mirror my phone screen I get what is shown above.

Some phone apps will cast to smart TVs and some TVs support WiFi Direct so long as TV and phone are on the same network.
