os 11 and nova launcher

2021-05-06, 21:53 PM

I've been using Nova launcher for a few years w/o any problems on my Moto G6...and this one, the Moto G Power... With G Power, through OS 10, no problems.  But now with the today's update to OS 11, I either get the message that there is a problem parsing the package or, if I go to the Google Store and use the Beta version, it will not download to the phone.  I'm not a tech person, but I can follow specific instructions...Help.  I want to put Nova Launcher back on the phone...and use it.

Thanks

Experiencing bugs after a major OS update is not uncommon. Performing a Factory Reset could help clear up those performance issues.

If I were to do a factory re-set, wouldn't to OS 10 and then re-download OS 11? How would that solve the problem?

A Factory Reset will not rollback your device to an earlier OS version. Instead it can help clear up any performance or bug issues you maybe currently experiencing on your device.

So, to make sure I understand this...if I do a re-set, it will go to OS 11...and that should clear up the "bugs?" Obviously, then, I would need to re-install all of my apps. Am I correct? Will this work?

Whichever OS version your device is currently on will remain intact after the Factory Reset. However it is highly recommended that you backup your data & settings prior to the reset. If you feel any apprehension about performing the Factory Reset then please refrain from doing it. If you choose to proceed then I've posted the official instructions for restoring your backup data on the Moto G Power in the link below. Keep in mind that when a Google account is added to your phone, previous backups are restored. This can be done by signing in to the same Google account while setting up your new or reset phone.

Here are the items that are typically restored:

* App data

* Call history

* Contacts

* Device settings

* Photos & videos

* SMS text messages

Hello,

As @Presto8 suggested a Factory Reset (FDR) after a major OS update is always a good idea. Not required, but if you see issues after an OS update, the FDR might very well clear those issues up. Let us know if you continue to have issues after the Factory Reset.

Thanks,

Tom

Okay...I did the re-set of the phone and everything works well....except Nova Launcher Prime.  The only way to get it, is to use the Beta version...which does not allow for any badge counts (a function I really like) and/or hand gestures.

Are there any other suggestions?

I'm glad to hear that performance has improved on your device. Your best option is to contact the developer of Nova Launcher if you're still experiencing problems.

I just checked w/the developer. I forgot that I already contacted them. Here's their reply: Hello, That's something you need to contact your device OEM about as that's something they broke as you stated with their OS update and not something on our end.
