AT&T VoLTE compatibility issues

I just received my new Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 and have spent the last 2 days trying to get it to work on AT&T's network. My old Samsung Galaxy worked great, including VoLTE and Wi Fi Calling but my new Moto doesn't even offer the ability to change the preferred network type via settings and if I use *#*#4636#*#* to access the Phone Info screen, the Set Preferred Network Type option is greyed out and set to NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA. VoLTE Provisioned, Video Calling Provisioned, Wifi Calling Provisioned and EAB/Presence Provisioned are all greyed out too.

I've swapped out my SIM to a new one today at the AT&T store with no luck and even cleared the cache for the Wi-Fi Calling app. And yes, I've rebooted the phone multiple times while doing all of this.

By any chance is there a possible fix for this, otherwise this really isn't a 5G phone if you have AT&T and without VoLTE support, this brand new phone's going to be killed the next time AT&T decides to cull phones from service like they did last year.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Nael,

Wi-Fi calling (and hospot) features are premium features for AT&T and AT&T chooses to disallow these premium feaatures on devices that are not purchased from ATT. ATT wants you to buy devices from them. Yes, your device DOES support wi-fi calling, but AT&T SIM algorythm is blobking wi-fi calling because you did not buy your device from AT&T.

I had the same issue with my moto g stylus 5G and ATT - wifi calling was not avail.  What I did is I switched to Consumer Cellular (CC)

CC is postpaid (not prepaid) and they also run only on AT&T. CC SIM opens up all features on moto g stylus 5G because CC wants your service and CC does not care where u bought ur device. On CC you will have WiFI calling available on ur moto g stylus 5G.

The other company that does not care about where ur device is purchased is from is T-Mobile. With T-Mobile SIM ur device will have all features avail WiFI calling, etc....

I am on CC and I am loving it, I have hospot, wifi calling, Volte etc... open.

Don't mess with a dialer code. The SIM u insert has algorythm what to allow and not allow on the device. CC SIM and T-Mo SIM will allow EVERYTHING on ur device.

CC SIM you can buy at target and the $10 purchase price will be refunded by CC to u. CC has no start-up fees or any activation fees whatsoever. T-Mo has startup fees (activation fees) etc...

Let me know what u think. I recommend CC that runs on ATT. CC uses same bands as ATT and  CC's SIM does not block bands on ur device that ATT uses like cricket blocks 5G bands. Cricket SIM blocks ATT's tower 5G bands on devices not purchased from cricket even though your device supports 5G NSA. You wont get 5G NSA on cricket. CC does not block 5G NSA nor does T-Mo.

If you want all premium features from ATT, then you need to wait for ATT to sell Moto G STylus 5G and buy locked device direct from ATT and u will have all features avail. Unlocked devices bought from Amazon, Best Buy, direct from motorola.com have certain features NOT open for ATT (even though unlocked device's hardware DOES support those features.) As MotoBecky explained to you - she is 100% correct.

If you want an unlocked device bought directly from manufacturer or AMAZON to have ALL premium features avail on ATT such as wifi calling etc... these devices are: Pixels from 6a and after have ALL features open on ATT, most recent iPhones have all features open on ATT , and some most resent Samsungs will have all features avail on ATT incl WiFI calling VolTE hotspot etc... as unlocked bought from manufact.

Try CC SIM - att service. You will not be disappointed

ADDENDUM: Hang on a second. I just checked on moto's website and it says under Specs for moto G Stylus 5G 2023:  Compatible | supports 5G sub6 NSA, VoLTE, WiFi Calling ||

Nael, try to update your phone by going to Settings-->SOftware Update and run all the updates and Wi-Fi Calling should work with ATT. Moto might have released an update for ATT to support on unlocked device wifi calling. Also update your Google Play System Updates (see instruxs below) and also update Google Play Store Apps and rebooth device and see if WiFI calling works on ATT. You might be right.

Hello

I checked on this further with the team when this question first came up. The AT&T carrier specific device will support wifi calling but the retail unlocked device, wifi calling is not supported.  I asked if there is any way to make this more clear on our site.

Thanks for your suggestions about Consumer Cellular, I hope other customers find the information helpful.

Thanks

Becky

Attached is the output of entering *#*#4636#*#* into the keypad.

I've removed the bit of identifying info at the top of the screen for privacy purposes.

Hi,

We appreciate your patience. We don't support changing settings in the hidden menu. Please confirm if you have turned on Wi-Fi calling via the settings menu under the Phone app? And, you would also need to fill in the e911 information.

Regards,

Amit

Re:AT&T VoLTE compatibility issues

There's no option to turn on Wi-Fi Calling or to adjust any of the 4G/5G/LTE/VoLTE settings. Please view the attached screen shots.

Hello @TheNael

I checked into this further and found that the WiFi Calling is supported on the AT&T version of the phone.  But unfortunately, WiFi calling for AT&T is not supported on the retail unlocked device.  This occurs from time to time, the carrier may only choose to support the feature on the carrier device rather than on the unlocked device.

If this is an important feature to you, and if you are within your return period, you could return the phone and get the carrier device from AT&T.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Becky

Re:AT&T VoLTE compatibility issues

So, I talked to AT&T and they said there isn't a Moto G Stylus 5G model offered thru them. They were really trying to push me to an iPhone or Samsung device.

So I want to just make absolutely certain I got this correct. In 2023, Motorola released a device that it claimed fully supported AT&T in all of its marketing materials, including on it's own web site and it turns out that VoLTE and WiFi Calling are not available on a supposedly unlocked 5G smart phone, even after AT&T cut a whole slew of unsupported phones last year for not having those features as a part of a 4G upgrade plan? Does that sound about right?

Is there a reason why Motorola couldn't work with AT&T, which is a major carrier in the US, to ensure all of it's future devices would operate correctly on their network before advertising that they do?
