Contacts sharing

2020-09-16, 17:49 PM

There is something wrong with sharing contacts but I can't manage to solve it on my own...

New phone, replacing an older Motorola. Everything went fine with "restore", so all apps downloaded, contacts ok, and so on.

The only problem is with the "Contacts sharing" option: open Contacts app, select contact, share ... well, the sharing menu now shows a .vcf filename, then the list of available apps. If you select Whatsapp it says that the format is not compatible and Whatsapp app closes.

I had the same issue on my Motorola One Zoom, soon after the finally available Android 10 update: same weird behavior, but then, after the first night left charging (no updates or similar happened), everything works fine.

I already tried to clean cache and storage of the Contacts app, and also to eliminate google account and then re-add it, but nothing different happens.

Any clue? Thanks in advance!

WhatsApp has no need to import your Contacts list. It reads your Contacts to check if a contact is available on WhatsApp.

Download/Install the Standalone Google contacts app,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.contacts&hl=en_GB

Load it up and top-left there might be a small red dot so click on it. This gives tips and tricks and one of them is to clean up/Merge the Contacts list which can get corrupted when copying to a new phone. It's a little known feature of the Standalone app.

HTH :)

Thanks Porphyrius. Are you talking about sideloading Contacts App? Or uninstall App and then reinstall it via Google Play?

The app is installed, so Google Play doesn't allow you to reinstall it...

Save the contact as a vcf file, then send that as an attachment on WhatsApp.
