Moto G Stylus 2021 Notification Issue

2021-02-15, 14:29 PM

Good Morning All,

I've been a Motorola user for a few years now from Samsung and I'm very happy I switched over. Before this I owned a G7 Power with no issues. My recent change to the stylus version has me somewhat vexed on one issue, the notification sound for text messages.

I use zedge for my sounds and messages plus by Verizon as they are my provider.  I set my notification sound and 90% of the time it works,  but not always, for some reason when certain people text me the phone says nope I'm going to use the default moto notifications sound for this one.

How do I change that? I've been all through my settings and for the life of me I cant figure this one out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Thomas

Hi tobatohmet

Thanks for further explanation. I would like to confirm, when you go to Settings to change the notification tone, does it shows the sg1 or it also reverted back to default? I wonder if the Settings is actually changing. Try doing reset app preferences, then set your preferred notification tone again.

Go to Settings > Apps & notification > see all > Tap 3 vertical dots on top > Show System > Tap 3 vertical dots on top > Reset App preferences.

Best regards,
Rich

Hi tobatohmet,

We would like to help you with this. Try turning off "Flip for Do Not Disturb" feature in the Moto App. This feature turns on the "Do Not Disturb" which does will not ring or vibrate if the phone is facing downward on a flat surface. Once you have turned off the feature, monitor it for a few hours and let me know how it goes.

That feature is already turned off.

Here's a clearer picture of my issue.

I have sg1 jack notification sound downloaded from zedge set as my notification sound preference. However for some reason my phone decided to use the default moto notification sound whenever it wants to. I want that part to stop.

It is noticable especially when 2 of my contacts send me a text message, the phone uses the default sound instead of my selected zedge sound.

I hope this explanation helps.

Yes it shows sg1, it doesn't reset. I followed the instructions you gave, now I'm just waiting to see what happens. I'll keep you informed.

Thank you for the help so far.

Thank you for your help with this. The notification reset seems to have corrected the issue.

Have you tried tapping on the notification while connected to Wi-Fi? If yes, does it take you to the software update page in the settings? Please update your profile with current phone, carrier and IMEI -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.
