This Nagging Nag for 11 Update is REALLY getting annoying.

2021-05-03, 19:57 PM

Tell me how to turn the nag off or disabled it permanently.  I'm not interested in delaying it for a day or an hour, or 15 minutes.  I want it GONE.  I'll decide when and IF to upgrade when I feel like it.

Hi CuriosityKills,

Thanks for posting and we would like to help you with this. Just to confirm, you are getting the Android 11 update notification and you want to get rid of it?

Best regards,
Zeke

Go to Settings>Apps & Notifications>App Info>Go to the three dots located in the upper right corner of the screen>"Show System">Scroll down to Motorola Software Update app>Tap "Force Stop."

I've turned it off in Settings a couple of times, but it keeps coming back.  I looked at where you recommend and see the option, but if I do this, will I be able to undo it if I decide to upgrade later?

"Force Stopping" the Motorola Software Update app is temporary and only applies to the current session. Once you reboot your device, the Motorola Software Update app automatically refreshes itself. It will quietly run in the background and check for updates again. So there's nothing to be "undone." Your device will function as normal.

Hi CuriosityKills

Do you have Motorola Update Services in the Apps and notification settings? If so, try disabling it. See if that helps. Thanks.

Hello Agent_Rich,

Unfortunately "Motorola Update Services" is no longer accessible in Android 10 as it was in earlier OS versions. It's not listed anywhere in the device. On my Moto G7 Power running Android Pie, I could disable "Motorola Update Services" and "Motorola Software Update" via ADB. This is no longer the case in Android 10 and up. The only way I've found to disable that nagging update splash screen is by using a third-party firewall app. As you know, a firewall can be used to prevent certain apps from accessing the internet. Using the AdGuard Premium app, which has a built-in firewall, I've blocked WiFi and Mobile Data access to the "Motorola Software Update" app. Because it no longer has access to the internet, it can't call home to any of the servers for an update. Problem solved. BTW, AdGuard Premium is a paid app. However there are free firewall apps on the Play Store.
