Wide Angle Camera

2020-08-07, 20:55 PM

I know the wide angle camera currently doesn't take photos (except while taking a video). It is impossible there isn't a way to implement this. I know that maybe the pictures wouldn't win any awards, but shouldn't we at least have the option? At the very least can they could let 3rd party apps access it so they could take pictures with it? Who do we beg to try and make this happen?

I would just do what I do with 1080p/60fps GoPro footage and just screen-grab stills from video playback. Just turn the phone to landscape when playing back the video (so it will be 1080p resolution), pause where you want to "snap" the picture, and then just screen-grab it (Vol- & Power buttons at the same time). On this phone you can also screen-grab using your stylus. You'll have to crop the left and right black bars (because the phone is so tall or in this orientation so wide), but otherwise you'll get a 16:9 1080p resolution still that's using the wide angle camera.  The video is 60fps, so you'll have a lot of stills to choose from -- no closed eyes, everyone's smiling, etc.  Works great! Like you said, not the best resolution/quality, but it's definitely good enough for social media, etc.

The problem is, that's not really "taking a picture" I am capable of doing that, but it's not convenient, and still doesn't give you all the options that a still camera mode would give. I just feel like it should be able to just be a camera. If there is some technical reason it can't, I'd be interested to know why (I'm not being sarcastic, I'd be genuinely interested)

Hi spazoid82,

I understand you'd like to have this feature. This working as designed and I can pass your feedback along but we can't guarantee any changes.

Best regards,
