Can't change wallpaper - "App not installed"

2021-05-08, 12:23 PM

Hi there, when trying to change the wallpaper on my G10 I get the message "App not installed".

I have gone into Google Play and verified that the standard Google Wallpaper app is installed which it says it is.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Ozzie1989

Are you trying to set a wallpaper from your Google Photos or from the Home screen? Try clearing Wallpaper app data in the Settings > Apps & notification > see all apps > Google Wallpaper or Wallpaper > Clear Data or Clear Storage. See if that helps. Thanks.

Thanks for your guidance so far.

Within apps in settings, even with system apps showing, I cannot find the app even though Play Store says it's installed.

I've cleared the cache and data on these but it still doesn't work from the home screen (see pics).

Any ideas or should I just reset?

Hi Ozzie1989

Thanks for the screenshots. Have you tried clearing data on Styles & Wallpaper instead? Also, try setting up a wallpaper while the phone is in safe mode.

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.
Just turn off and on the phone to boot back to normal mode.

Best regards,
Rich

Yup, facing the same issue here ever since the previous software update (it was 500 MB update). Moto live wallpapers are still accessible however.

Hi Rich, yes I've tried clearing cache etc. on everything I could find to do with wallpaper or display.

Interestingly I can't access safe mode in the way you describe either. The menu never appears when I hold my finger on either the power off or restart 'on screen' button.

Any other way to get to safe mode?

Thanks!

Hello everyone. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I was able to duplicate on my device after manually flashing the same build you received. I've escalated it from my end. I'll let you know once I hear anything back. In the meantime, until we get more information, you can still change the wallpaper using the Google Photos app (Open Google photos > Find the photo you want to use as your wallpaper > Open the photo > Tap on the 3 dots on the top right > Scroll over to Use As and tap on it > choose Photos Wallpaper > Adjust the image how you want it > Tap on the Checkmark on the bottom right > Choose if you want home screen, lock screen or both.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello all, I have an update on this. As I mentioned we have duplicated and I'm happy to say we will have improvements coming in a future software update. I don't have the timing on when that will be available. However, if you are unable to wait and want to fix this, you can perform a Factory Reset, and then setting the wallpaper will work again. I have tested and confirmed this on mine. Also, as mentioned in my previous reply you can also set wallpapers from the Google Photos app as well.

I apologize for the issues. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

-Tom
