Android and Security Updates

2021-03-26, 3:06 AM

The G100 looks like an upgraded version of the Moto G 5G plus. What is the promised number of years of Android and security update (and the frequency)?

I hope the G100 offers more than the one Android update with just quarterly update (and often late) like the Moto G 5G plus. If Motorola can offer better update frequency and duration than the Moto G 5G plus, this G100 should sell well.

Please advise. Thanks.

I have not received any information on upgrade plans yet for the G100. If I were to take a guess it would be one major OS upgrade (personal opinion). However, let me ask around on my end to see if I can get an official answer.

Thanks for the response. That's my fear as well...a semi-flagship with only 1 android update and 2(?) years of security update is so underwhelming vs. competition.

I mean, the other two popular OEMs are offering 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security update...twice as long...

Seriously, even as a loyal fan of Motorola, I will probably move onto other brands.

I'm at same point as @LENMOTO. Moto G100 has an interesting pricing and hardware, and I was considering it, but only one OS update? No deal at all, thanks. Improve your software support first, and then we'll see

I was about to preorder it but this topic stopped me. 1 major update? No, thanks.

Same here, as a Fan I'm thinking to move to another brand.

That become more ridiculous when you read news like that.

https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-electronics-expands-its-galaxy-upcycling-program-to-enable-consumers-to-repurpose-galaxy-smartphones-into-smart-home-devices

and see LineageOs..

A Pos sales it's very important, and that included a major android update. 2 version it's the minimal aceptable.

A "semi-flagship" have to update 3 versions, and need be more fast not 6 or 8 month to release this update.

I've already bought Samsung. I am not a fan of Samsung but 3 years of major updates and 4 years of security patches convinced me.
