Re:Google PLay Update system

Hi All,

Some news...

There was a "carrier services" update available this morning. This seems to happen when a new Play system update is available.

This installed with no problem. Nothing changed.

Sure enough, when I manually checked for a Play system update, there was a 7.3kB update available. I downloaded it and it installed without needing a restart. Nothing else happened so I powered off the phone and restarted. The Play store version had rolled back to the previous version but that was all.

Checked for Play system  update again and now there was a 15MB update available. Downloaded and it again installed without needing a restart. Waited a while and nothing else happened. Play system date was still 1st August. Powered off the phone again, waited, restarted. Allowed the phone to boot and settle for a few minutes - no issues. No rollback, no automatic restart, Play store version now up to date, Play system date still 1st August.

No idea what the updates did but at least they did not cause an automatic restart, or, roll back the Play system update to January / June.

Steve.

Thats normal now, if you factory reset, you get both patches, and they're the only patches, and both need no restart. But when you dont deactivate apps, it will rollback after a manual restart. Issue is different, but still present.

@Hykova ,

Only disabled apps (which I disabled a long time):

Digital wellbeing

Google 1

Google Play movies and tv

Google Play services for AR

Interactive wallpapers

Moto Gametime

You tube music

I uninstalled these a long time ago:

Facebook

Google podcasts

Google news

Google Pay

Google Books and Audiobooks

Google Play Games

Google Play music

Privacy wall

No restart / rollback with today's updates. Have manually restarted (for testing purposes) several times - no problem.

@Steve

If you keep that apps disabled, no rollback will happen. If you do activate them again, you will have a rollback. Maybe in 1-2 days or so, but you will have one. Trust me. I've tried it.

Oh yeah, I changed my widget. Yes, I'm bragging, but whatever. o,o

I always let these apps disbabled for a long time so for me it´s fine. If keeping these apps diabled is all we need, fine for me.Google should have let users erase these apps long time ago, quite useless these days, at least google movies or Google music.

Using ADB, you could completely remove most of that apps, but thats rather complicated. You can deactivate most of the apps on Motorola though - thats good. Other companies let you disable way less apps.

Still beeing based on stock Android unlike others......Google should allow users to do it hassle free. Gmail and google search should be the only apps pre installed. All others is trash, and people should have freedom to decide if they want or not. Just saying

Completely agree - should only provide basic functionality to begin with and let users decide if they want more...

Unfortunately, Google want to control / know everything you do and have everything linked together - it is madness!

Re:Google PLay Update system

I just remember something I tried a while ago and I checked if something changed ...

There is Motos "Rescue and Smart Assistant", a program where you're able to recover your phone by downloading its firmware again, for example in case you brick'd it or something like that.

I noticed some weeks or a month ago, that I wasnt able to download the firmware. Its a 2.5GB file, which always stops at 2.3GB.

I am not sure if its related in any way to this problem here, but since its always stopping at 2.3GB, I wanted to ask, if someone of you ever tried to use the "Rescue and Smart Assistant" to fix this problem here, and, if yes, if you experienced the same download problem.
