Camera unavailable error 01800001 Moto G7 plus

2020-09-24, 15:41 PM

Moto G7 Plus XT1965-3, Android 10, build QPWS30.61-21.14

My rear camera has stopped working with the inbuilt camera app - I get the error "Camera not available" and the code 01800001

Strangely, however, it will work with other apps.

I've tried:

*changing location of saved photos (was SD card, changed to phone)

*clearing camera cache

*booting into safe mode

I don't really want to do a factory reset, as that would mean setting up my phone again from scratch, and it's obviously not a hardware issue as I can take photos with other apps... so is there anything else I can try first?

Thanks

Toby

Have you tried reinstalling the app?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, but it's a built-in app which came with the phone, so I can't uninstall it.

Going through settings, it's taken me to the playstore where it says it's called 'Moto Camera 2'.

I've tried disabling and re-enabling it, but that didn't help either.

Sorry, that's what I meant - force stop, wipe cache & storage, then disable then re-enable.

If you've tried that then I'm not sure what else to suggest. Wait for a Motorola agent to see what they say.

Hi tobydjones,

I would also like to help you with this. Based on my experience, this is usually a hardware failure. It's possible one of the camera sensor is damaged. I would suggest doing factory data reset just to exhaust possible troubleshooting we could try. Backup important files, but we recommend not restoring them. See if that fixes the camera, otherwise, I would suggest submitting the device to service.

Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory Data Reset

Hope that helps. Please let me know. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich
