Dumb tones question

2020-02-10, 15:01 PM

I have a new Motorola G7 Power and I can't work out how to reduce the volume of the sound produced as I dial each digit to make a call - probably because I don't know what that sound is called!  What's the secret please?

Hi Hah_dhup,

If you're talking about the dial tone, the volume of the tone relies on the ringing volume - you can lower the ring volume, set it to vibrate mode or silent mode (Settings > Apps > Sound > Ring volume). Let me know if that helps. Thanks.

Thank you Rich.  OK ... so it's not possible to have a loud ring tone and at the same time have the tone that sounds when I'm dialling a number quieter?

Hmmm ... so thinking further about this,  in the event that I suddenly wish to mute the ring tone and dial out silently (eg a hostage situation), what would be the quickest/most certain way to do that please?

Hi Hah_dhup,

Looking around some settings, I must have missed this (Settings > Sounds > Advanced > Toggle off "dial pad tones" - This will mute the dial tone. You can keep the ringing volume you want but to make the dial tone quieter you have to adjust the ringing volume. Thanks.
