G7 Cast doesn't work

2020-01-20, 3:54 AM

Hello. I have a new G7 and Casting doesn't discover any devices. I've searched online and apparently there is a setting for "Enable wireless display" but only on rooted devices?

Seriously, is there no way to cast without rooting?

Thanks

Hi Kyle470,

Are you trying to cast your phone on your TV? In that case, Google Chromecast is the only way we guarantee that would let you cast/mirror your screen. Thanks.

Yes, I'm trying to cast my phone to a Roku. This worked flawlessly on my last two phones (Samsung Galaxy variety), but I do not see the "Enable Wireless Display" option anywhere in the Moto G7.

Without this option enabled, it appears that no devices will ever be detected.

Hi Kyle470,

Unfortunately, Chromecast is the only option to cast your phone. Moto G7 will not cast to none-Chromecast devices.

Thanks for the reply, but this basic Android feature isn't working as it is. Is there a reason the option for Wireless Display is disabled and rooting the device is required to enable it?

Hi Kyle470,

I understand you'd like to use your phone with Roku however, it's a stock Android limitation and we can't guarantee it would work after rooting the device. You can try but there's no guarantee of it.

Re: G7 Cast doesn't work

I just noticed that the YouTube app on my Moto g7 has the option to cast. It works perfectly to cast to my Rokus, even with the Cast feature in the settings menu set to Off.

This makes my point that the phone is certainly capable of casting... What I really want is the ability to view my screen on a larger display like my TV for web pages etc, not YouTube.

Perhaps the feature could be enabled in a future release?

Thanks
