Mobile Wifi Hotspot not working after Android 10 upgrade

Last week, I upgraded my G7 to Android 10. Now my mobile wifi hotspot no longer works. I get this error : "Your order could not be processed. Your plan does not support mobile tethering". Any ideas?

Have you tried going to the Phone's Back and Reset option and resetting the Network settings?

Strange. Three recent posts elsewhere complaining of the same problem of hotspot/tethering no longer available after Android 10 update.
One G7 Power on Straight Talk Wireless.
Two G7 Optimos, one on Tracfone.

I couldn't find any Back and Reset options for the network on this phone, however, I did change some other network options. When I changed the APN from "Tracfone Internet VZWINTERNET" to "Tracfone Internet TRACFONE VZWENTP", I no longer get the error and the Hotspot now stays on. I can connect my laptop to the hotspot, but, still no internet.  I tried changing the Preferred network types "GLOBAL", "LTE / CDMA" or "LTE / GSM / UMTS", but that made no difference (connected to hotspot, but no internet access). I also powered off the hotspot and mobile data with each change.

Found the Network Reset option. After reset, I restarted the phone. Hotspot is on, but, still no internet.

Sounds to me like the carrier is trying to block hotspot use?

Have you tried using a VPN, online chatter suggests this can bypass carrier blocks.

I just tried Bitdefender's VPN. I can connect to the internet, but, the hotspot still does not work and I get the original error message.  Thanks for the advice though!

This must be very frustrating. Until a Motorola support agent comes along, only other thought I have is if you need to share your signal with your laptop perhaps you can USB tether it. I don't know how that works as I've never used it. If you research it, it may help out until the hotspot problem is solved.

Hi Rjbinfletcher,

 

Let's investigate this. Can you please send me a bug report?

 

1. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Tap on Build number 7 times on the build number to go into the developer options mode]
2. After the above steps, Developer options will be enabled.
3. Go to Settings ->Developer options -> Enable USB debugging > Toggle On
4. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Bug Report shortcut > Toggle On
5. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging > Toggle On
6. Once the issue is reproduced, Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power down menu.
7. Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.
8. Then upload the BugReport to your personal Google Drive and then share the link to the BugReport via a private message.
9. Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the time that you observed the behavior in local time.

 

Note: Make sure that you turn developer options OFF after creating the bug report. Otherwise, it can cause issues on the phone with the additional logged being enabled in the background.
