I don't think so - now I do have the Android with the red ! triangle, but it's saying No command onscreen.

HardReset.info:

  • While still holding the Volume Up button, press and release the Power button.
  • Well done! You should be in the Recovery Mode.

I'll have to start all that over again because it's just rebooted into the regular wallpaper home page and unresponsive touchscreen :-(.

OK but look back at the posts as getting into Recovery mode is a two stage operation and the Dead Android is what stops a lot of people as they don't know the 2nd part.

Nope, pressed and held volume up, pressed and released power and it's just rebooted as normal.
Your patience and help are much appreciated, however. I'll give it another go later, because apart from anything else, several alarms are set to American time before the clocks went back. so they're all off an hour.

It can be just a nack of getting the right timing with the buttons :)

  1. Boot the Moto into Fastboot Mode
  2. Press the Volume Down button twice
  3. Press the Power button when you see the ‘Recovery’ option selected
  4. Wait until the Moto G4 boots to the Android on its back screen
  5. Press and hold the Power button
  6. Then press the Volume Up button once you begin holding the Power button down
  7. Let go of both the Power and Volume Down buttons once you see the Android recovery screen

Yes, I tried the other way as on the Motorola site, hold power button down and then press and release volume up. I think we're getting there.
Again, your time and patience is appreciated - otherwise I think I'd just have wanted to stamp on it.
