Moto G7 Power stops recognizing SD card after reboot

2019-05-14, 19:12 PM

I'm using a brand new SanDisk Extreme 128 GB microSDXC (UHS-I U3 A2 V30) formatted as portable storage. Just restarted my G7 Power and it's no longer recognizing the card, saying "Issue with SanDisk SD card, tap to fix." Tapping the message brings up the formating screen asking if I want to use the card as phone storage or portable storage.

This is the second time this has happened, and with two different cards. When I first got the phone, I initially used a 64 GB SanDisk Ultra that worked fine with at least two previous Samsung phones. I didn't reformat that one initially; it worked fine for about a week, then started flaking, became corrupted, popped up the same "issue with SD card" error and wouldn't format. Windows chkdsk couldn't fix it and neither Windows nor the SD Association official formating app could format it, so I just figured it was a random hardware failure with the card and bought a new Extreme.

I haven't had a chance to start troubleshooting yet, but since this is now two failures with two cards I'm seeing a troubling pattern. Anybody else experiencing similar issues with the G7 Power?

Powered off, transfered card from phone to PC card reader and it opens just fine. Copied over the media files I didn't already have backed up and all appear to be fine.

Reinserted card in phone, powered up and it's still popping up prompting me to format. Anybody else experienced this with the G7 Power? My next step will be contacting Motorola support.

Hi eNinja,

Sorry to learn about this. Please update your profile with the IMEI number of your phone? Is it okay if we look into your apps to determine what is causing the issue? This will help us investigate. Make sure that your Motorola Privacy is enabled. To do so > Settings > Systems > Motorola Privacy > Enabled.

If you need a reference in updating your profile, please click this link. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-Feedback/Complete-your-forums-profile/td-p/3339943

Also, could you try to formate the card > erase all > start fresh and obsersve. Let us know if that helps?

Regards,

IMEI and privacy settings updated. I'd prefer not to reformat the card for now since it's got several gigabytes of media files I'd need to download again and works fine plugged into my PC. I may pick up a new card for testing, though. Feel free to PM me and let me know what the diagnostic data tells you.

Moto g7 doesn't recognize sd card

2019-05-24, 14:44 PM

Hi, I got mi new g7 yesterday and it's been acting up. I set up my microsd (Kingston 64gb UHS-1 class 10) as portable storage, got formatted and mounted correctly. A couple hours later i got a notification saying "Issue with SD card, tap to fix" wich brings up the formatting options. It keeps happening every few hours and after every reboot of the phone. The card was working fine 2 days ago on my moto g5 and is correctly recognized, read and written by 2 different pcs. What's happening? Is the phone formatting the sd wrong?

Hi gonzaou,

Thanks for posting. I just merged your post on this thread so we won't clutter on the site. Is your SD card a brand new one? Can you please try the suggestion provided on this thread? Format the SD card on your phone. Please note, back up all your files before doing it, so you won't lose any of them. Let us know. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich

Formatted the sd, rebooted and it says it's corrupted again. It's 2 months old.

Re: Moto g7 doesn't recognize sd card

Update: I put together 2 other sd cards and 2 phones. The sd i was using on my moto g7 works well on other phones, and other sd cards work well on my g7. I gather that SOMEHOW my specific model of SD isn't compatible with the g7. Is that even possible? and if so, shouldn't that information be available to me somewhere?

Thanks for reverting. Appreciate your efforts in testing this. This is odd but certainly possible that some of the SD cards do not support few respective devices and the information should be available on the particular brand websites if tested already.

Let me try to find a Kingstone 64GB SD cards to see if I can test for a few days. Will keep you posted on how it goes?
