Re:Moto G7 Power stops recognizing SD card after reboot

2020-04-17, 2:11 AM

I'll give that a try, thinking back to my previous Motorola phone I lost years of pics, some very sentimental, from the card in it-I know I should have had them backed up- I thought I'd just been unlucky but is there a bit of a recurring theme here with SD cards & Moto phones? Previous card was  Sandisk

Both my old card and current are San disk.

Re:Moto G7 Power stops recognizing SD card after reboot

Soooo.... I've had the card back in my laptop & all my files are still there even though I've formatted it in the G7 numerous times. I then tried to copy some music onto it from my laptop. Laptop says the card is locked. Checked the switch a few times, it isn't set to lock. Then I tried an old card in the G7 & it recognised it immediately & I was able to access the files on it. I quickly removed the card before this too became unusable. when the phone says it's formatting the card it shows 20% straight away then takes minutes to complete, I then get a message saying it's ready to use, when I check it's nowhere to be seen.

I wonder if formatting the card in g7 is part of the issue? Will the card still read on the laptop? When I put the card back into my g7 it read it fine without the format prompt.

Re:Moto G7 Power stops recognizing SD card after reboot

I tried a reboot then after the G7 checked the card I didn't format it in either of the options given. I then get a message saying the card is corrupted. All my data is still on the card when I put it in my laptop. Before this I tried to unlock the card using the laptop using Diskpart, I got a message telling me the card was unlocked but was still unable to copy files to the card. I have just tried the card in a very old but still working basic LG phone. It read the card immediately & all my files are there & can be opened indicating to me the problem is not with the card but with the G7. Anyone from Moto care to comment on this?

Try turning off the phone. Install a different card. If it reads it, eject card and try the "broken" card. It worked for my g7 power.

Hi Bestnuggz, I've already tried this and although the 2nd card was recognised the original card came up with the same message as before. Is your card still working as it's over a week since you posted it was o.k.?  It's go to be something to do with the phone but Moto seem to be ignoring the issue. It seems to be that to become a Senior Moto Agent you need to be able to tell people to re-format an SD card and try a different card, if this fails just ignore any other posts on the issue....

Re:Moto G7 Power stops recognizing SD card after reboot

Same issue happened here with a standard G7, dual sim model.

Phone was fine all day, went for my daily exercise and several apps - Spotify, BBC sounds etc, wouldn't open. Tried 'restarting' phone (rather than a full shut down) and it took forever. It eventually came back to life after about 10 minutes. Still couldn't access some apps. When I got home, I shut down the phone fully. Most apps worked upon restart, although some were sluggish to enter. Spotify took a few attempts to get started and wanted me to log in again.

I put the phone on charge overnight as usual. In the morning I wasn't getting images through with messages on What's App. I shut down the phone again and when it restarted it couldn't find the SD card. Have tried all of the suggestions in this long thread and it's still not working.

Getting a new SD card is not a quick option under lockdown conditions, so I can't try swapping cards but clearly that's not a long-term solution judging by the above postings. I have had the phone for about 6 months. It's my third Motorola G and I love them but reading about an issue like this - long term and with no solution from Moto representatives other than 'please buy a new card or try formatting' - shows me that they have poor customer care.

Look at this thread Mototrola, there's an issue with your phones! Sort it out please and let us know how to continue using your phones without losing saved data and/or having to be tech specialists.

This issue is not unique to the G7. I have had this happen on my G5S Plus and my Moto One Action. SD cards work and read fine everywhere except in the motorola phones. My unreadable cards work fine in my laptop so I just re-formatted them and now use them in my security cameras with no issues. So far a new card is working in my Moto One Action.
