Moto G7 Power won't update/software update fails

2019-08-26, 9:13 AM

For the last few weeks, I've had a popup for my phone saying it wants to install security update PPO29.114-134 however every single time saying "sorry there was a problem updating your moto G7 power, no changes were made"

I've restarted the device and the error keeps happening.  The constant popups telling me to install this are driving me mad because the update screen will pop up in front of whatever I'm using whether it's e-mails, game apps etc.  A short term solution was disabling notifications for Motorola Update services however that's just covering up the fact that this phone refuses to update, and even then the main update page will throw up at least once per day regardless of the notifications being on or off.

I really want to avoid trying a full factory reset as I've already had to reset this phone to fix various issues and I'm in all honesty sick of this phone and it's ridiculous quirks.

I would very much welcome anyone who has some clue as to what on Earth is going on here with my updates and what I could do to resolve it.

Thank you in advance.

Hi ElensarFFXI,

That's kinda odd. Thanks for letting us know this. Can you please update your profile with the current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate, check and see your current software build.

Need help updating your profile? See here. Thanks.

Best regards,

Thank you for replying, I've updated with my serial number.  My carrier is unlisted on your list it's Tesco mobile which I think runs on the O2 network?

Thank you

Hi ElensarFFXI,

We checked this. You should be getting an update. Are you using an SD card? If so try removing it and check for software update again. Let me know. Thanks.

I tried the update again without the memory card installed.  Same issue, update fails, it waits a few minutes then starts spamming me with notifications that an update is available.  It fails every time.

Hi ElensarFFXI,

Try pushing the update using the LMSA tool.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht102605

Let me know if that helps. Thanks.
