Also, night picture taken with GCam. Stock app isn't capable of this quality.

Night time, stock camera app. It's a HUGE difference and the software is to blame.

The GCam app was taken from xda forum, just search google for m"g7 gcam app xda"

Re: Moto G7 Screen, Camera and Other Issues

I have a problem with video recording quality. The video below is taken with the default camera app, but it's the same with Google Camera too.

Put the quality to 1080p or 4K and look at the lower part of the Google Home, it should be grey, but there are circles appearing in the video. The video doesn't always end up like this, with all those "circles", sometimes it is, sometimes not. Maybe this is caused, because he videos are way too oversaturated (photos are not, they're fine), and Google camera app doesn't solve this problem either, however Open Camera doesn't record oversaturated videos. I really don't get it...

If you want I can upload a video where oversaturating can be seen much more.

TURN OFF SOUND before starting video!!!

Turning up the video to 1080p or 4K also turns up the "circles" that you have mentioned.

Is this not so prevalent in the Open Camera app?

Have you tried stabilising the video using the Google Photos app?

So I did a LOT of tests by now. It turns out, it totally doesn't matter which camera app I use. All of them can produce these "circles", and they're often appear.

About oversatuaration: Same thing, all camera apps can produce oversaturated results. It feels like "HDR" is on for videos (however there's no such option for videos), but sometimes it's good.

Whichever phone i use (Motorola, Sony or Samsung) i always use HDR turned on.

So, does this mean that the optics (actual camera hardware) is an inferior lens?

Or would you still think that only a software upgrade can really improve the photos?

I have re-read and reviewed some more videos and found out that G7 camera is better than the G6 albeit the "oversaturation" bit (dynamic range) could be better. Which again comes down to our main topic/argument of the camera hardware vs software issue.

Any more comment or thoughts?
