Slow Wifi and LTE after Android 10 update

2020-08-11, 8:52 AM

Hello everyone

Like every Moto 7 owner here, I recently upgrade my phone to Android 10 with loads of issues. In addition to the slow LTE everyone is facing, the update also affected by WIFI connection.  It's as slow as molasses on my home network as well as on public WIFI.

Also, after the update the front facing clock widget with the battery power level indicator.... half of the circular bar is faded. It can no longer show me how much battery life I have left.

The good news though, that the several apps like Amazon, Twitter and eBay that could not connect to the internet on Android 9 can now do so  after the update on my home WIFI Network. The only work around prior was through a VPN service. Didn't have the problem on public WIFI or LTE though.

So what can I do? I thought about resetting my phone, but I'm reading some people's Moto G7 are getting bricked by it and my phone is out of warranty.

Even If I could, the reset won't restore Android 9  am I correct?

Hi Comando-X,

I will try my best to help you with this. First, regarding the WiFi, are you only experiencing slow WiFi in a specific application? Can you please test your WiFi speed  using this link. Please share a screenshot the result. As for the battery indicator, can you also send a screenshot?

Please let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Best regards,

Re:Slow Wifi and LTE after Android 10 update

I use DSL wifi. The problem is that speed and response time is sporadic. It would be normal for a few minutes and then it would just hang. This is especially glaring when I try updating a dozen apps the other day which took nearly 6 hours to complete.  Didn't have this issue under Android 9.

I can connect my old Moto G4, Samsung Tab and laptop without any problems so I doubt it's my wifi settings or hardware.

The power bar problem affects only the clock widget on home screen. It's fine on the lockscreen.

Hi Comando-X,

Thanks for the screenshot. First, the clock widget is working as designed. It changes in Android 10 and we can't guarantee the battery indicator will be back. As for the WiFi, the speed looks normal for a DSL. Doing factory data reset will not brick the phone and the phone will not restore to android 9 but can you please observe your WiFi speed using stock apps like Youtube and Chrome while the phone is in safe mode?

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.
Just turn off and on the phone to boot back to normal mode.

Re:Slow Wifi and LTE after Android 10 update

Okay, in safe mode, internet speed seems to be consistent and normal. The overall phone response seems to be faster so I have to assume it app related or  that a app is incompatible with the new OS.  Is there a way to find it without uninstalling each app one at a time?

If the clock widget is functioning normally, but the battery indicator is disabled, will there be a update to the widget to address this problem?

Appreciate the help!

Hi Comando-X,

I'm glad you're seeing improvements in safe mode. That's correct, possible third-party apps are causing this. If you have Anti-virus apps, battery saver apps, launcher, and such, I would suggest uninstalling them. Otherwise, try uninstalling apps you previously installed.

The battery indicator was removed on Android 10. I will pass your feedback along but there's no guarantee they will bring it back. Thanks.

Arbitrary decision to remove a feature users liked and had gotten used to?  Why? This kind of thing should be explained. Somewhere, someone knows the real reason

Hi Edward15151515,

Let me help you. First, there's no native option to roll back to Android 9. Please make sure all apps are up to date in Play Store. Try clearing cache on Pubg (Settings > Apps & notification > See all > "name of the app" > Clear cache). Can you observe your internet by streaming or using other apps? Please let me know. Thanks.
