Someone asked this before.  The g7 has a traditional LCD display and, unlike OLED screens, there is no power savings from a dark mode.

That said there is a dark theme under settings -> display (advanced) -> display theme

This helped me too

Enabling dark mode

2019-11-12, 16:20 PM

I was enabling dark mode on my Motorola g7 power and noticed it didn't change everything to dark.. I was wanting to change my contact list, text messaging ,etc to dark... I've done this on other phones and hope Motorola will add/fix this..this should be a standard feature on new phones.

It seems that nothing changes when I select Dark mode, Everything is still too bright white, and it'll kill this OLED in the long term. I've set my screen super dim in order to preserve the screen, but it would still just be nicer if everything could just turn black like it is supposed to be.

Hi Hunter12reukiodo,

Thanks for posting. Dark mode on Pie won't change the background color of the Settings. However, Messages app and Contacts app has its own settings to set this. Make sure the apps are up to date in the Play Store. To enable them, open the app  > Settings > Enable dark mode/dark theme.

Best regards,

Then how do I get the Settings app to be dark? This bright white is killing my eyes.

Hi reukiodo,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for not providing you the detailed instructions. Here are the steps:

Messages app > Tap the 3 vertical dots (top right part of the screen) > Enable Dark Mode)

Contacts app > Tap the 3 horizontal lines (top left part of the screen) > Settings > Theme > Dark

Settings app will not have a dark background when you set the dark mode.

Best regards,

Why not? Why provide a half-assed dark theme that doesn't apply to ALL Motorola apps? White backgrounds are PHYSICALLY painful in dark environments. Please pressire the Motorola app developers to add a proper dark theme to ALL Motorola apps.
