Adaptive Brightness after Android 10

2020-09-23, 15:57 PM

Hi all,

I have an issue related the Adaptive Brightness feature after upgrade to Android 10: it's activated but the brightness not changing (at the moment, for example, it remains at 82%). If I modify it manually, it remains at that value.
I have already:
- disabled/enabled Adaptive Brightness

- reset Adaptive Brightness values (in Device Health Services app)
- rebooted the smartphone
- reset the smartphone
but the issue persists.

Any idea?

It needs time to learn. I don't use it because I'm too impatient ;-)

With Android 9 it was great since the beginning: now, if I don't change the brightness manually, I have the room lightning like it was day

Hi il_fabio,

Cuddly is correct, the phone will learn your preferences for different lighting. However, it should still change. Can you try moving the phone under a bright light to see if the display gets brighther and then to a dark room to see if it drops in brightness. If not please provide a Bug Report (Steps Below)

Steps on how to generate a Bug report:
Go to Settings ->Developer options -> Enable USB debugging > Toggle On
Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Bug Report shortcut > Toggle On
Once the issue is reproduced: Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power-down menu.
Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.
Then upload the Bug Report to your personal Google Drive and then share the link of the Bug Report via Private Message.
Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the local time when you observed the behavior.

Best regards,
Zeke

Re:Adaptive Brightness after Android 10

Hi,

I add other details, I hope helpful to identify a solution: I resetted again the smartphone to start with a default configuration. At the beginning the brightness level is set to 82%. If I modify it manually, after some minutes, honestly I didn't count them, it returns automatically at 82%.

I loved Adaptive Brightness behavior in Android 9: without any manual customization, from the beginning the brightness was responsively and perfect during all day (for me, at least).

With this bug (?) I have to remember to decrease brightness manually, especially during evening/night. Basically it become useless...very annoying...

Thanks.

Hi il_fabio,

You haven't mentioned if you tested the device on both dark and light areas. We also want to know if you have a case attached since it might cover the light sensor.

Hi,

You are right.

Basically I perform these tests:

unlock the device in a dark and light room -> Brightness level fixed at 82% in both rooms

move from a dark room to light room and viceversa with device powered on -> Brightness level 82%, not changing

put the device very close to the lamp -> Brightness level at 100% until I move the device then level fixed at 82% after few seconds

change manually the value (up and down) -> after some minutes Brightness level fixed at 82%

Hi,

other tests:

Brightness variable between 82% and 100% based on location (at home in different room or outside)

Brightness manually changed from 82% (magic number!) to 50% during the evening -> level immediately and automatically dropped at 0% and after some minutes restored automatically at 82%

They won't be able to help you. Just install this app from playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.gyrus.yaab&hl=en_IN

You will be fine with this app.

Hi Methuselahin,

I appreciated your suggestion, of course!

But I'm optimistic that Zeke and Motorola/Lenovo engineering team will be able to provide me a solution.
