Transfer data from old phone to moto g power

2021-02-25, 2:42 AM

I just bought this phone today and I feel nothing but frustration because I can't seem to successfully copy data (call logs, messages, pictures etc) from my old phone to the moto g power. Is there a way to do it since the motorola migrate app doesn't work anymore(read that online and can't find the app on the play store or phone)? I am really attempted to return this phone. Please help me out.

Hello, and sorry you're having issues swapping your data. I'll do my best to help. There are a few ways you can transfer data. One is to ensure your old phone is backed up to Google and Google Photos. Depending on the model you can find backup settings in the Settings App > System > Advanced > Backup. This will backup call some app data, SMS messages, Device settings, Call history, and contact (it will not back up MMS messages). Then when you do the initial setup on your new G Power just choose to restore your data from the cloud. For photos, if you have Google photos set to backup the photos on your old phone, then as soon as you log in on the new phone you should see all those photos in the cloud in the Google Photos app.

As an alternative, if you have a Windows PC, you can use Rescue & Smart Assistant: https://www.motorola.com/us/rescue-and-smart-assistant/p. With this app you can backup/restore Contacts, Pictures, Songs, and Videos. You would still have to rely on Google Backup to restore your SMS messages though.

My suggestion is to ensure everything is backed up to your Google account on the old phone. Factory reset the new phone and when you log in with the same Google account on the new phone choose to restore from a cloud backup. You can also reach out to @MotoBecky via a private message and she can schedule a time with you to call and help walk you through things.
