Screen not good , Moto Edge 2021

Two weeks after I bought the phone, the screen had problems and flickering often occurred. The phone has not been bumped or dropped to the ground. I don't know if it is a software problem or a hardware problem.

Same problem here. My screen flickers when playing any video from an app, including YouTube, Netflix, HBO Prime, Amazon Prime, and the camera app. This is a software bug. When YouTube plays through Chrome, the screen does not flicker.

 

Lenovo please issue a fix. This really undermines an otherwise excellent phone.

Screen flickering problem

Hi Lenovo,

 

The Moto Edge 2021 has a software bug that causes random brightness variations in any video content played by an app, including YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime and the camera app. This is not a hardware issue because the same YouTube video played through Chrome does not have this problem. The display appears to be attempting to compensate for light or dark scenes, but does so constantly, producing flashes and flickering that make video hard to watch. Many others have reported the same behavior on other forums, including reddit.com/motorola and YouTube.

 

Playing with settings does not make a difference, including playing with adaptive brightness, refresh rate, saturated/neutral colors, HW overlay. Booting into safe mode does not make a difference. Re-installing apps does not make a difference.

 

Please issue a software fix.

Sorry to know that your phone's screen is flickering. We'll try our best to help. For us to further assist you, we'll ask for some details.

 

  • How often does the screen flicker?
  • Does this happen after an update?
  • Is your device in Dark mode when this happened?
  • Have you tried rebooting the device and see if that would help?
  • Does flickering only happen to a specific app?
  • If you can replicate it, can you share a sample video showing how it flickers?

  • When the flicker happens, does it only happen to a specific display resolution? (1080p, or higher)
  • Does this happen after an update?
  • Does it also happen to a recorded video?

When the flicker happens, does it only happen to a specific display resolution? It appears to happen at all resolutions that I try on the YouTube app. I'm not able to control resolution on Netflix, HBO Max, or Amazon Prime. Note again: the flickering goes away when I play YouTube videos through Chrome.

Does this happen after an update? It started happening as soon as I began using the phone. I believe the phone may have applied some updates during its setup. There have not been any updates since the initial setup.

Does it also happen to a recorded video? Yes, when I play back a recorded video using the camera app, it flashes. However, when I transfer the same video to my computer and play it from there, there is no flashing.

Motorola/Lenovo needs to address this issue. I've had this device for over a week and still no software updates. I would request a replacement, but the issue will probably be on the replacement device as well. Seems to be a software related problem.

My phone has just received a software update (RRM31.Q3-23-29-5), which appears to have substantially solved this issue. There is still a slow variation in brightness in some scenes, but there is no longer any flickering. It looks like someone on your team was on this!
