Hello!! I did also report this since October and I don' have any answer neither a fix yet. This is for the Netherlands with T-Mobile. Thanks.

Hello, I can confirm the phone is planned to get 5G support on T-Mobile in the Netherlands. I'm trying to get a rough estimate around timing.

Re:5G doesn't show up in the preferred type of network

Super funny stuff!

I called Motorola Italy assistance, you know, 1-800 something...

The operator told me that this is purely due to the fact that I don't have a 5G SIM on WindTre, by the time I insert a 5G SIM, the 5G menu will magically come up

[sarcasm]I didn't know that Android on Moto could be soooo intelligent[/sarcasm]

Let me quote specs from Moto website --> https://www.motorola.it/smartphones-motorola-edge/p

Rete: 5G: NR Sub-6GHz | 4G: LTE (UL Cat 13 / DL Cat 18) | 3G: UMTS / HSPA+ | 2G: GSM / EDGE
Bande: 5G: 1/3/7/28/38/78/78(HPUE)

4G: LTE band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/20/26/28/32/38/40/41/41(CHINA)/41(INDIA)/66
3G: UMTS band 1/2/4/5/8
2G: GSM band 2/3/5/8

Let me link this page from wikipedia, explaining quite clearly how mobile operators in Italy do share frequencies

https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/5G_in_Italia

So considering that

  • 5G bands in Italy are 28/78/257,
  • Moto Edge is clearly advertised as compatible with band 78 on Moto website and
  • there is no specific claim that there are operator-bound limitations that would actually avoid 5G to work with WindTre

we have two possible conclusions:

  1. Moto Italy assistance is telling the truth, MotorolaTom is unfortunately wrong/there's no need of operator-specific releases (on top that I'm on reteu release) and we simply need to go get a new shining WindTre 5G SIM
  2. MotorolaTom is right, but unfortunately for Lenovo, Moto Edge is falsely advertised as a 5G phone compatible with all of the above mentioned 5G bands. Which is basically a crime (false advertising/misleading adverting - how you wanna call it) and (I'm no lawyer, but) mostly probably everyone that has bought Moto Edge could at least claim for a full refund. If not asking for something more

Unfortunately we're under lockdown here this weekend and I guess changing the SIM is not that strict necessity authorizing me out of home... otherwise I would have given it a try :)

That's not even my first Moto... I've been through a Droid 2, a Razr M, a Moto X2, a Moto Z2 (I won't mention the ever promised Pie update, that started rolling out but never completed...)

Re:5G doesn't show up in the preferred type of network

So then we're saying that in 2021:

  • standards are not standards: you say the phone has 5G support on bands x y z and... maybe it's not like that
  • you still do your programming "if condition then enable": you sell an unlocked phone, that by definition has to work with every operator, unfortunately it works like a charm if your operator is in the white list
  • you advertise thing that are not true, as per above

@Norbis: nowhere in Moto's official site is stated that. No ecom either is telling that. Only Lenovo site now is stating this.

So Lenovo? It's quite simple, you commit on a date and release the proper update. 700€ phone...

So folks? Any news on this?

Phone assistance finally admitted that 5G on WindTre doesn't work yet. They owe me an official answer, after checking with the "technical team".

Unfortunately this matter is advertised nowhere, except for Lenovo e-com, not even on Moto site. And of course it was not by time I bought the phone May, 28th 2020

The new Moto Razr actually works on WindTre's 5G: that shouldn't be that far away, despite the different chipset, to have it enabled on Edge as well.

@MotorolaTom any news regarding 5G support in Croatia (Hrvatski Telekom/Croatian Telecom/T-Mobile)?

Folks as I have mentioned previously, the updates to support 5G in Italy and Croatia will be coming in a future software update. I don't have timing on that, but it's coming. I know you're anxious to get it, but that's all the information I have currently.

Tom I'm not anxious, I'm pretty much mad: this phone was advertised in Italy with no explicit limitation on networks compatibility thus it actually lacks a day-1 expected feature.

So a committed date is definitely owed to Italian customers.

We're not talking about a small niche operator, WindTre is actually the 2nd largest mobile operator in Italy, 24M people.

Agreed.

This is actually false advertising.

On HT site in Croatia, 5G support is explicitly mentioned

I understand how you feel, and I assure you your feedback has been received by the proper people. As for the updates adding the support for the carriers. I'm sorry, but I don't have that. If I do get more details, I will definitely share it with you.
