Re:Edge+ Wifi and 4G Connection Problema

Thanks for the update. No changes... This problem happens 2-3 times per day usually. It *seems* to be related to periods of standby. There is almost always a connection problem when I first wakeup. Then often, if I put my phone down a few hours (during work, during a workout, etc), the problem will resurface after I pick it up again. But it may be unrelated. It has also happened in the middle of regular use. The frustrating thing is that the 4G signal is insufferably slow, too, at the same time that the wifi messes up, so I have to restart the phone several times a day to keep a reliable connection.

I can't remember if I shared this before or not... Check the weird wifi status message next to my Wlfsbrg network. This only happens when my phone won't connect to WiFi. Also today, while I was parked waiting for grocery pickup, I had to restart my phone 3 times for 4G to even work. The phone locked up after restart #2 and froze for 30 seconds. Perhaps the problem is getting worse. This is not a criticism in any way, shape, or form because I really appreciate the help, but every time I have to restart my phone it feels more and more like a $15 Verizon special and less and less like a $1,000 flagship. And today I noticed my display has a "bright spot" that's mega obvious with polarized glasses... This phone is hexed. Might have to get a 2nd line for my old Z3 just so I have a consistent connection 🙄

I appreciate these tips.

My router is supplied by Comcast/Xfinity. I logged into the gateway and gathered some information about it. I'm unable to tell if the software of the router is up-to-date, but Comcast routinely updates the device on their own, so I imagine the software is fairly recent.

Model: TG1682G

Vendor: ARRIS Group, Inc.

eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version: 10.1.27B.SIP.PC20.CT

Security mode: WPAWPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES)

The router provides both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz connection, and the default setting from Comcast was to name the SSID the same for both and use the same password. Not sure if this is typical. Back when I used my own private router, I had different SSIDs and passwords for the different frequencies. I checked which one my phone was connected to, and I watched the phone cycle back and forth between 2.4 and 5 GHz in Network details. I never have this kind of WiFi problem, so I've not looked into which frequency my prior phones have been connected to, but it seems unusual that the listed frequency would change while I sat looking at it. I could easily rename the 5 GHz frequency if there's any chance the double name/same password could be the problem. I don't know why the phone was switching between the two, but I imagine 5 GHz might have problems reaching to all ends of the house. This might explain why sometimes the signal works fine and sometimes it's terrible.

The problem comes and goes, but I will be sure to generate a bug report using the steps you supplied if I encounter another issue with the phone cycling on and off of WiFi. Thanks again.

Hi.

Thanks again for all these details.

Would you mind setting up with different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz connections, and see if that helps? Let us know!

Regards,

-Matt

Done! I should know within a day if there's any improvement. Question... Do Motorola phones "prefer" 2.4GHZ or 5GHz? Any guess as to which band would provide the best results? I know 5GHz is faster but doesn't go as far. I'm working with 1,700 square feet on the main floor.

Alas, no improvement. I switched the dual bands to different SSIDs and put the phone on 5GHz. As soon as I left it alone for 30 minutes, the 5GHz went to "saved" and refused to connect. The 2.4GHz is "forgotten" aka the phone doesn't have the password to connect to it anymore. My Z3 is placed directly beside the Edge+ and is zipping along just fine on the same WiFi. 😩

And again, the 4G is running so slowly that it wouldn't attach the photo...
