Latest security update removed the edge touch shortcut

2021-05-08, 15:44 PM

Sadly, after just realising now (after reading in forums) that since the update of android 11 lots of edge + unique functionality were changed/removed, now come the latest security update to see yet another option removed... The edge touch...

What are you guys doing ?!?

Stop pushing updates that only works for Motorola logo, but one for each of the multiple models that "Motorola" puts out there... Test them by each of the specific phone designer teams (they know their specifics)

I bought this specific device for its specific capabilities... I paid to have them, why remove what I pay for ??

Please 🙏 fix your devices the way they were meant to be used and advertised for...

A repeatedly deceived customer...

Okay, thanks for confirming.

The bar isn't going to show on a screenshot, so please excuse this question -- but could it be on the other side, where you may not be noticing it? Not sure if you prefer right or left, but want to make sure before we try more drastic troubleshooting.

UPDATE: Try this.

  • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all XXX apps
  • 3-dot menu > Show system apps
  • Use search at top - enter "edge" to find Moto Edge Touch app
  • Moto Edge Touch > Storage & cache
  • Clear storage and Clear cache

Also, please confirm if you're using the standard launcher.

If the above does not help I think the next steps would be a Factory Data Reset or reflashing the software.

Hi Mr-Roots

I appreciate your feedback on this. I would like to make sure, are you not seeing the Edge Touch option in the Settings > Display > Advanced > Edge touch? Please let me know. Thanks.

All the options concerning it are still there, I still see, in the options, the icons/shortcuts I put in it, I still can go in the ‘pick where you wanna place the button’ option but It’s the button itself that disappeared

Hi.

So, you see it when in the Moto app, setting the position, but it's gone when you exit? Is gone totally, from the home screen and all other apps?

If so, please try a couple of things to help us troubleshoot.

  • Can you test in Safe Mode to see if this is an app issue? To go into Safe Mode, press the physical power key, then press and hold the pop-up "Power off" key until the Safe Mode instructions pop up. If it's back when in Safe Mode, it would indicate that a 3rd-party app is interfering with it.
  • Go to Settings > Apps > See all XXX apps > 3-dot menu > Reset app preferences

Let me know, thanks.

Thanks Matt, I fixed the issues by clearing storage & cache like you suggested, but I also force stopped the app as well to turn it back on afterwards. The edge button is back !
