Re:Motorola edge / edge plus OS update

2021-02-26, 13:54 PM

Tom, No disrespect was meant. You should know that I've been a Motorola "guy" since the OG Droid. I love the innovations they've incorporated and that's what keeps me coming back. I upgraded to the Edge from the Moto Z, jumping from Android 8 to 10. I'm part of the MFN and got upgraded to 11 a few months ago. I'm always willing to try new things but when I "hear" that the Edge might not get to 12, that's very disheartening. Hopefully Motorola will do the right thing.

It's so sad that six months old OS (Android 11) is still not available worldwide for the flagship Edge phones. I'm so disappointed.

I understand how you feel, and rest assured the update is still coming. I just don't have timing on it. That being said, I am making sure these pain-points are heard by the proper people.

I confirm that Android 11 upgrade has arrived in Italy for Edge today ;D I am also appreciating all the changes produced and the things that have remained in good condition. I hope this enthusiasm remains with the Android 12 upgrade plan as well, even if it's premature to ask (and I understand it as a developer), but Edge (like Edge+) they are both top of the range of devices!

Nice to hear! Then I think we'll get the update here in Romania by the end of year around December I guess :-)))) Since we're always way behind the rest of the world.

I give up on this phone. I don't want to wait Android 11 update anymore.

I'm sorry you feel this way. We're working to get the Android 11 update out as quickly as possible to our eligible devices.

Yes, I understand that and I appreciate your work. But, the stable Android 11 was announced officially on September 8, 2020 (7 months ago). Every other manufacturer already released Android 11 update for their devices, even for low end models. I don't understand why flagship models (Edge & Edge+) are still on the 1.5y old OS version...

While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree a bit. Yes, Android 11 was officially released in Sept 2020, but only a few devices, outside of Google, didn't have Stable (Non-beta) releases until sometime in October at the earliest. Some others didn't start getting stable releases until around Nov-Dec. There are many devices and OEM's that are still in the early stages of deployment as well. While it may feel like a long time, in the grand scheme of things, we're not really behind. Even companies like OnePlus which only has a handful of models I believe have only released a stable Android 11 build on maybe two of their models. I'm not saying your feelings aren't valid and I really do appreciate the feedback. I just wanted to put it into some perspective. That being said, I have made sure that your feedback regarding the update has been heard.

Oh my… don’t know what to say.

"There are many devices and OEM's that are still in the early stages of deployment as well." - I can make you a list with all devices that already received Android 11 update if you wish.

From a company like Motorola, I expected way more. This is just a lame excuse for not providing timely updates.
