Forgot to post this yesterday. Seems the problem persists inside bootloader mode too (not as visible because it doesn't show up on black but the left side text is faded and and the green tint is there. Also on the boot screen is completely visible. Seems more like faulty hardware than software too me.. unless there's something wrong with the screen drivers.

Re:Screen issue

My wife's phone just started doing this same thing. We got it for her less than 3 weeks ago. 4 days ago it began showing symptoms similar to what everyone here has brought up (Darkened areas around the screen, green tint, etc.). Well, we applied the update yesterday and it appeared to fix the issue for maybe a full day. Now it is exhibiting the same issues once again. Any clue when a reliable update will be released addressing this? My main concern is that we are coming up on the end of the 30 day window to return the device to Verizon, and I don't want to be stuck with a $1k device that will be non functional in the near future since this display issue doesn't look to be getting better with time. My wife loves the phone and features, but it is hard to look passed the main point of input and viewing on the device being erratic/defective without a reasonable timeline being provided by the manufacturer for a definite fix.

I'm now part of the green haze/blotchy group. I'm not optimistic that a software fix will work, but I hope I'm wrong.

Really wanted this to be an awesome phone. I'm a hard core Motorola fan. Loved the z phones. Had the first z phone and z2 then z3 now I almost went with the z4 but then the edge came out and I was so excited. Now I feel like Motorola has let me down with this screen issue. There is no way this slipped through the test phase. No way with how many people are having trouble. I'm still holding onto my edge+ but if my screen is going to be constantly green then I'm going to have to switch phones. I'm just praying that Motorola can fix this.

Hi.

We've seen this software clear up the problem, but in some cases the "smudging" could be too advanced to be resolved in this way. We do think that the software will clear up many displays and prevent it from happening on those that haven't had the issue.

We appreciate everyone who has been patient and waited for the software. If the problem persists after you have updated and given it a day or two, please exchange the phone with Verizon.

Regards and thanks.

Matt - Thanks for keeping us all updated.

If the issue comes back when folks are outside of their return window with Verizon, how should we go about replacements?  Will Motorola handle directly?

Thanks!

Re:Screen issue

Hi Matt,

Just wanted to add that I just bought one of these phones and am having the same issue. My first handset came about 2 weeks ago and started displaying issues 4-5 days later. I had it traded in a for a new phone before I realized this was a more widespread issue. I'm now on my second device and the issues are even more pronounced than my first phone (I have had it for a few days longer however). In addition to the same issues everyone else is describing, I also get a yellowish-green tint that sometimes takes over the entire bottom half of my screen and renders it unusable. I have attached a few pictures. In the past couple days, I have had to go without my phone for hours while the screen issues calm down. They seem to get better after keeping the phone/screen off for extended periods of time. Any suggestions besides waiting for an update? Thanks.

Edit: I did apply an update that was released 6/11, but it has made no difference to fix the gray splotches on the edge of my screen and the green tint issue after I've been using the phone for an extended period. Am I supposed to replace this phone again with Verizon for a 3rd new phone? This seems crazy for such an expensive phone and such a hassle on top of that.

Trevor

Hi.

I believe that Verizon will still exchange, but if not, please let me know.

Hi.

Won't show in a screenshot, so if you have a photo, please post.

Do you already have the new software?

Please update your profile with current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate.

  • Please make sure that the options under Settings > Motorola Privacy are on as well.
  • Let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.
