Touch screen not working, how do I back up my phone?

2021-03-02, 18:36 PM

Hello,

For a few weeks I had a small perfect black circle (looks like a bleed) on the lower right side of the screen when I was charging it then it was there all of the time. The other day I took it off the charger and the spot was now growing, the next day the touch screen stopped working. I am unable to connect with the Rescue  and Smart Assistant to back up, what are my options?

Also on the bleeding LCD, there is no physical damage to the screen and the phone has not been dropped. Is this going to be covered under warranty?

Thanks,

Jim

 Tom,

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, I have tried to power it and leave it, but the phone just resets and powers back up. I did leave it for several day to let the battery go dead hoping that a reset would work (I miss the old days when you could pull a battery to do a reset). I will get a mouse for it and get the data backed up.

Jim, darn, I was hoping leaving it sit for a bit would allow the screen to come back to life for a bit. Let me know once you get the OTG adapter and mouse and let me know if works.

Hi Jim, Yikes, I'm sorry to see this. I've not heard of the touchscreen going out as a result of the other screen issues (purple, bleeding, etc). Without a functioning touchscreen, options are almost non-existent for backing up the device. However, there are ways. If you can pick-up and USB-C OTG adapter and a mouse, the phone should allow you to use a mouse instead of the touchscreen. This would at least allow you to enable options to backup content before having the device repaired. The other thing you could possibly try is to turn off the phone and leave it off for 24hrs. Don't have it on the charger or turn it on at all. just let it sit. This might get the display working again even if temporarily allowing you to do a backup. Otherwise, if neither of those works, then sadly, there are no other options I can really provide for the backup.

However, once you're ready to have the device repaired, please send @MotoBecky a private message and she can help you through the repair process.

Jim, that is great news. I'm glad you were able to get it working and had the ability to back up your device with the use of the OTG + Mouse. Now that you got things backed up, please reach out to @MotoBecky so she can help you through the repair process.
