SD Card is not able to be used as internal storage

2021-07-18, 22:50 PM

I have got to say that if I knew this phone was set up to where you can't use the SD card as internal storage, I would not have gotten this phone. This phone is just a paper weight now. Why would you even consider making a phone where you can't use the SD card as internal storage. What do I do if I run out of room on the phone and can't move apps to the SD card?????

Adoptable storage and the ability to transfer apps to the SD Card was available on Android Pie. Unfortunately it has been permanently removed from Android 10+ and above. Neither Motorola or any other OEM is responsible for removing this feature. This was a decision made by Google, the creator and owner of Android OS.

I looked this up the other day, and it's apparently still possible to do it, you just need to format the microsd card manually. After you do so, you'll have the option to migrate data to the sd card. First you'll need to download adb and turn on Android's USB debugging. There's plenty of info out there on how to do that so I won't get into it here. I followed the instructions here, except in the line where it says "mixed 60" I type "private", like the comment under that answer suggests, to mark the entire sd card as internal. Seems to work just fine on my Motorola One 5G Ace.

Glad it worked out for you. Even though I prefer to use my SD card as external storage, I'm going to bookmark the webpage you posted. It's funny because I've visited that website a number of times. Between StackOverflow and XDA, I've learned how to release the true, raw power of Android OS.

Hello all. I'm glad you got this to work. However, this is outside of the normal scope of support for this model. The phone was not designed to use an SD Card as internal storage. We can't guarantee performance or compatibility. Your mileage may vary. I'm going to move this topic over to our developer community. I hope you understand.

Thanks,

Tom
