NFC extended length not supported

2020-02-17, 17:35 PM

Just like mentioned here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/motorola-one-vision/NFC-error/m-p/4649476) the

one action suffers the same issue when trying to read the NFC tag in the german id card.

In the config file /vendor/etc/libnfc-sec-vendor.conf. I can see:

ISO_DEP_MAX_TRANSCEIVE=261

Would be fine if that could be fixed for both devices (one vision and one action)

Cheers,

Thomas

While it does look like something that should be easily fixed with a software patch, I'm still not sure what is it needed for. I read the thread on the Vision section, and still not sure what would be the benefits of that. What would be the use cases here? Where would you use that and you can't right now? I never had any issues paying with the phone. But I have a feeling this is not about that, right?

So if you have more information about this, that would be really appreciated. :) This is really new to me. I guess the devs surely know what you're talking about. But for normal users, that might not be so obvious. :))

The use case here is that you identify yourself to a German authority and so that services can be used.

For online services from German authorities, you could take the German ID card, a PC and a certified, expensive reader.

Alternatively, you can take the German ID card, a smartphone and the "ausweis-app" to achieve the same.  In order for the smartphone to read the German ID card via NFC, it must support the NFC feature "extended length".

I think there are many more people who own a smartphone with NFC feature than a PC with an expensive certified card reader. And you usually have your smartphone with you.

Again ... hopefully Motorola will bring a config update there soon to solve the problem.

Yes please, patch this asap. I just got the necessary prerequsites to register my ID card with the German authority for electronic ID and certfifcate services and ran into the same error.

I chose this phone, because its got NFC, and now that ...

The german AusweisApp2 needs a minimum of 500 Byte.

Is there any news on the patch? It would be really useful if we in Germany could use our Motorola One Vision phones for online ID card identification using the AusweisApp2 and NFC, especially at the moment in the Corona time. Kind regards, Willy.

The original post was done by me, (flagged as "by Anonymous" probably during the forum migration)

I just received the third update since then, and oh wonder:

NFC extended length is still NOT SUPPORTED

Any Update on this ?

I also received the update, but still no patch for this. Disappointing and ignorant. I'm gonna root the phone now and do it by myself.

First time I find it necessary to step away from stock firmware. The recent unattended update for the Covid-19 tools was reason enough already.

I'm also having problems to read Spanish ID Card and I can only guess it is a similar problem.

It won't transfer the certificates. My surprise was that my XT1580 (Motorola XForce) from 2016 can read it without and trouble, but the One Vision purchased a few months after launch, cannot.

The problem here is that looks like there was not much interest from Motorola on keep supporting their phones, specially after launching several different models every now and then.
