Re:Poor RAM management

2020-05-12, 15:11 PM

RAM is cleared on restart. So...yeah, it makes sense that it works better after that.

If you keep your phone on all the time, maybe try to switch it off from time to time. That should also help with the RAM. Also, as I mentioned above, try to close some of the apps running in the background, if you don't need them.

And yeah, if you still encounter this issue in the future, a bug report should help a lot, in case there's a bug somewhere. :)

In the meantime, enjoy!

Hi maniksingh10

I don't see anything unusual based on your screenshots. There are couple of things you can try to manage the RAM. If you have the Files app by Google, you can try clearing up some cache there. You can download the app in Play Store, just search Files and download the one developed by Google. Thanks.

So, you don't find this unusual?? Around 400mb free whereas other user has 1.4gb free.

Did you go through the thread?

Hi maniksingh10

Hmm. You mentioned, RAM is cleared on restart, which is expected. Can you please confirm, when did you last restart your phone? Thanks.

Re:Poor RAM management

I think that's an average for (in this case) 1 day. Not a real-time overview of your RAM usage. Which means that it's probably taking the lowest value and the highest one recorded during that timeframe, and it's creating an average from them. So, if you're playing a lot of high-demanding games, or using a lot of apps during the day, that could reflect into your average RAM usage for that day, even if you're not doing anything out of the ordinary at that particular point in time. Also, if you keep your apps opened in the background for a long time, that could also affect that average. I could be wrong though.

So, my general suggestion would be to close apps you don't need from time to time, and, if you're not doing that already, shut the phone down during the night, or at least restart it from time to time.

However, for a real-time usage graph of your RAM, I think you can use a third party app such as RAM Booster: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glgjing.captain

Also, you can use an app for managing your startup apps, so that they don't unnecessarily start up with your phone. I think you can use any app for that, but I used Assistant for Android with pretty good results: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advancedprocessmanager

Here's what my current RAM usage looks like. I'd say that's a perfectly normal and reasonable RAM consumption for what I'm using.

Re:Poor RAM management

You're most welcome. :)

Thing is, sometimes our phones keep a lot of apps opened in the background, that we're not aware of. And those are generally eating our RAM. They try to be "always available", so they're saved into the RAM for later acces. Problem is, we tend to forget about them, but they don't forget eating up our RAM. :))

That's why my general suggestion would be to try and close the apps you don't need from time to time, aaand...if you don't need your phone on 100% of the time, you could also try turning it off when you don't need it (such as overnight, for example). That should also help with your average consumption, since it will clear the RAM on boot up anyway. Aaand your phone should feel snappier than before.

That, along with a startup manager to help you choose which apps you really need on your startup (choose wisely though :) ), should help you with this problem.

Anyway, if anything else, we're here to help. Or at least try to. :)
