Video stutter

2020-03-04, 16:23 PM
Does anyone else have a little jump when filming in action cam mode when stabilisation is enabled. The image jumps a little when moving phone and stop. I have the latest update.

I would say no....but at the same time, I'm not quite sure I understood the issue entirely... Not sure what you meant by "the image jumps a little when moving phone and stop.". Especially the last part.

I mean...I understand kind of what the issue is. You're probably dropping frames or something...? But the second part is not quite clear to me. So...you're just moving the phone around and then suddenly stop...and then? It jumps...where? Is the stuttering also visible in the final recording?

All I can see is a bit of "delay" which I'm pretty sure is intended for an image stabilised video. So...no stuttering that I can tell. A video of the issue might help...I guess. But yeah, at a first glance, I'd say it doesn't occur on my side.

I do have some issues with the photo camera though. The viewfinder has some lag, in low light scenarios. Doesn't seem to happen outside, in bright scenarios. Maybe it's just trying to bring more light to the scene and that takes from the "snappiness". I don't know. But the action camera was actually pretty good so far. I don't use it that much. I just tried what you said in order to help you confirm the issue.

The same stutter happens to me. I think it's up to the fact that it's only 'eis'...

Thank you for your answers. Here's a example of what I mean. Further looking in to the matter shows that this stutter doesn't show If I set resolution to HD. https://youtu.be/KocHk74L8rU

Yeah, the video is crystal clear. Is quite obvious. I'd say it looks almost like a focusing issue. But I couldn't reproduce it on my side. The video is buttery smooth. Settings are the default ones (FHD). I'll try to fiddle around with it a little more and see if I can reproduce this issue. By the way, does it still happen if you do a Clear Data on your camera app? I hope this is not a hardware issue with the lens itself. Are you using other photo/video apps on your phone? Something that could interfere with the default camera app?

Thank you. I tried to clear data for camera app. The problem still persists. But its only there using full HD or higher full HD fps settings, when stabilisation is enabled. It started occurring after latest update which leds me to belive its software related. I have no other camera app installed. Best regards

Yeah, logic would suggest that since it started with that update, it's most likely a software bug. Looks like the camera is twitching in its socket. But...weird thing is that it doesn't occur in my tests. And it doesn't occur in yours either, if you lower the resolution. I even tried setting the Action Cam to FHD 60fps and still no such issue. At least now we know what we're looking for! :)) So that video that you made is perfect for this!

What's your Android build number and camera app version? I'm assuming both are up to date. But just in case there are some differences, it would be interesting to see if they have anything to do with that.

Also, have you tried booting in Safe Mode, to see if it still occurs?

To do so, you need to hold the Power button, then hold the Restart option on the screen. You should see a pop-up asking if you want to activate Safe Mode. You click OK and wait for it to restart.

Do you have a backup made on Google Drive (by the way, there's a Google bug with that, as well). More info here. Cause in case everything else fails, you might need to do a Factory Reset.

Sorry, missed it. The hyperlinks don't show up as well on the new site -- that's one thing on our "fix it" list!

Reporting this.
