WiFi problems after Android 10 update

2020-03-29, 10:52 AM
I updated my phone to Android 10 after that i couldnt get a stabel WiFi connection (after connection i can load 1 website at most). I tried different devices they work fine. Things i tried: I reset WiFi settings. I disabled wpa2 on my network. I reset WiFi settings again. I looked into wiping the cache partition and found out that thats Not possible anymore. Are there anymore options other than resetting to Android 9?

Hello!

What is your device model? If you're in the US, you should have XT2013-4. But...there's no Android 10 update for that one, for as far as I know. So...did you flash Android 10 manually? Cause that might be the reason why you're having wifi issues.

Also, could you please, mention what exactly happens after trying to load the first site? Does it just hang in loading? WiFi connection drops? Do you still see the WiFi indicator up top? Do you have a strong (or at least strong enough) WiFi signal? Might be interesting to know, in order to narrow down the list of possible causes.

Device model is XT2013-2. I did not flash i installed via the normal system update. After loading the first site (somtimes it cant even load one site) it just hangs in loading. After i lock the phone connection drops, after a few seconds it reconnects with the same issues. WiFi signal is strong enough, the problem occures directly next to my router. WiFi indication is working (low signal when far away strong signal when close)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Haha! Just kidding. :)) That's just the cliché answer you usually get from tech support.

Have you tried other routers/hotspots? If you have another phone, you can make that one a wifi hotspot and try to connect from the Action. See if that works.

Is the router up to date in terms of software? Sometimes, they fix things like this in an update. So...it might a good thing to check that, too.

Does it occur in Safe Mode? To enter Safe Mode, long press the Power Button until you see that pop-up, and then long press the Reboot option. Confirm entering Safe Mode, wait for the phone to restart, and you should be in (it should say Safe Mode somewhere on the bottom of the screen).

Also, is the router a dual-band one? If so, are you connected to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band? What about the other devices you tried? Does it make any difference if you try the other band (5GHz if you're on the 2.4GHz band and vice-versa)?

Also, another thing to try, does it make any difference if you disconnect the other devices and only connect with the Moto One Action?

Just a few things for troubleshooting.

Thing is, I'm using an XT2013-2 (up to date, build number QSBS30.62-17-4), as well and I've got not such issues. So, right now, it looks a little bit like a specific issue with your setup.

Ok narrowed it down to the router (Fritzbox 7490). The router is running in 2.4 GHz mode WiFi works in 5 GHz mode, but connection is realy bad with 5 GHz i made a Hotspot using Windows and a 2.4 only WiFi stick. Sadly the router is upto date. I contacted the support for the router hopefully they can help.

Interesting... You are not the first person with this brand of router reporting wifi issues... I've seen other people online with similar if not identical issues and I might be wrong, but I think, the exact same router model, as well...

What I would suggest, if you don't particularly like that router for some reason, is to try to upgrade it to something else. I would recommend something from TP-Link. An Archer C7 for example is pretty cheap and it's a really good router for home use. I've had one for a couple of years now, and I have to say I'm very, very happy with its performance. Just a suggestion. :)

Hi.

It's true that we've been working on issues with Fritzbox routers for some time now. It's been a stubborn problem.

Would you be willing to reproduce this problem, and then generate and send us a bug report? This isn't as complicated as it looks...

1. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Tap on Build number 7 times on the build number to go into the developer options mode
2. After the above steps, Developer options will be enabled.
3. Go to Settings ->Developer options -> Enable USB debugging > Toggle On
4. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Bug Report shortcut > Toggle On
5. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging > Toggle On
6. Once the issue is reproduced, Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power down menu.
7. Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.
8. Then upload the BugReport to your personal Google Drive and then share the link to the BugReport in an email to supportforums@motorola.com. Please be sure to reference or provide a link to this post so we know what the bug report refers to.
9. Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the time that you observed the behavior in local time.

Also, please provide your Wifi Make, Model, security type, and band 2.4 or 5ghz, if possible.

Thanks a lot.

-Matt

Re:WiFi problems after Android 10 update

Hi this problem sounds a bit like the problem described in https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Chromebooks/Chromebook-C340-11-Not-Connecting-To-WiFi/m-p/5003496?page=1. I have exactly the same, with my C340-11. Wifi-connection can only be established when you're very close to the router, and with some routers it is impossible to connect. Before the last firmware update I've had no problems for more than 6 months. Wonder when Lenovo responds to this large scale bug
