AT&T: Device Not Compatible 2022

2020-07-21, 22:51 PM

I bought my Moto One Hyper just under 3 months ago.  I got this email today and I don't see the One Hyper listed under AT&T's guide to phones that will work on their network when 3G is discontinued in early 2022.  This is due to the phone not using HD voice?  I've been a pretty darned loyal Motorola customer.  There are three Motorola phones in front of me right now - the One Hyper, a G5 Plus, and a Moto X, not to mention the couple I owned prior to these.  Now I can stomach the G5 Plus and the Moto X not being compatible (I don't like it, they were my backups, but...), however, I just bought this One Hyper with the intent of it lasting me at least 3 years.

Is there anything that can / will be done with this in the form of a firmware upgrade?  I'm sorry, but to buy a brand new phone and be told not 3 months later that it'll soon be worthless is NOT something that's going to keep me buying Motorola products.

I have a Moto one hyper. It needs to have HD Voice or it will soon not work on ATT . Is this true?

I received a similar email, saying they would no longer be compatible with AT&T, regarding 2 of my devices. One of which I just purchased last month! When will they actually cease to function on AT&T, 2022 or sooner?

From what I've read, and there are numerous articles out there on the subject, the 3G network will go dark in February 2022. All that will remain after that point will be 4G and 5G.

Here's one of the better ones. Some of the comments, which should be read, are priceless.

Frank...who wonders whether his One Hyper on T-Mobile US (through an MVNO) will suffer the same fate.

Hi.

There's a lot of information (and misinformation) floating around about this. We're working to get a full understanding and once we do, we'll circle back.

Thanks,

-Matt

Re:AT&T: Device Not Compatible 2022

I have the same phone, and same problem. The call quality has been dreadful with this phone (no one can hear me - dropping in and out, the calls drop), and I am just coming to realize that none of the calling features from ATT are compatible. It is not the signal strength or other external parts as my iphone i have works fine, and if I use duo on wifi, the phone is crystal clear. It is the "phone-calling service that near dead.

I may switch to Verizon, if the it works better with them, but how would I know? The 1st function for a phone is conversation, and mine Moto One Hyper is useless for this. This is another example of the ripping off the consumer. No wonder my older relatives keep yearning for the days of the old metal, rotary dial wall phones! They worked .. and worked... Honestly, though, I am beginning to think they left us consumers no recourse - neither motorola nor ATT.

Very frustrated.

If anyone figures out a way to deal with the poor phone call quality with ATT please let us know. As is, I cant recommend it at all.
