Possible VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on T-Mobile?

2020-03-07, 5:58 AM
I have few different Moto unlocked phones (Z4, Z3 Play, G6, G7) All work with VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, but One Hyper doesn't. It appears locked out of B12. The phone version is up to date (-6 through OTA) Here is a question: will it get VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling support on T-Mobile through future ROM update, or should I flash radio from other compatible model?

I am also looking for answers about Wi-Fi calling on T-Mobile with the One Hyper. It doesn't appear to work at all. No matter which wi-fi router I connect to, the wi-fi calling feature is always stuck on "Enabling", but never enables.

Is this fixable, or do I have to return the phone?

Hi.

I can't say if these features may be enabled, but I can say that we would never recommend flashing another phone's radio to try and force the issue.

Hi.

These features are not currently supported. If they are show-stoppers for you, I'd recommend exchanging for a Moto phone that does support them, as we can't promise this will be adressed.

Regards,

Thanks, Matt. It certainly is a showstopper for us, because we have no cell service at our house.  So, without Wi-Fi calling, the phone is just a brick. Sad to hear, because I like the phone, otherwise.

Hey Sarah,
You should find that if you place the t-mobile sim card in Tray #2, that the service and connectivity to band 12 will have greater success - for reasons i am not entire sure of. wifi calling works on tray 1 with the compromise of the majority of band 12 sites. I do not think there are enough people complaining about this issue because many probably use at&t with this phone, which i do.
I painstakingly went through lenovo support and t-mobile support. each blamed each other. clearly this is a modem firmware/software compatibility issue. but try SIM tray 2.

Re:Possible VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on T-Mobile?

This may be of no help to those using AT&T, but on T-Mobile I was able to get Wi-Fi Calling working by switching from an old router that only supported IPv4 to a more modern router that supported both IPv4 and IPv6.

My SIM is in Slot 1 and I have a microSDXC flash memory card in the second slot. I've never changed that configuration since I initially installed the cards after taking delivery of the phone.

I'm not a direct T-Mobile user. I get access to the T-Mobile network through a reseller (MVNO). I did contact the MVNO (Ultra Mobile) to inform them that I wished to use Wi-Fi Calling, and they responded to me a day later that Wi-Fi Calling was now enabled on my account.

I reported on all of this in the following post.

https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/findpost/2917/4611145/5060445

As far as I know, under no circumstances does the One Hyper support VoLTE, although I think that it would be nice if it did.

Reading in other threads, there are apparently 2 requirements. There was a system update in (April?) that fixed Wi-Fi calling on T-Mobile. Then, your router must also support IPv6.

Good luck to other users.
