Can't Update (Something's not right. Reconnecting to server...)

2019-10-01, 19:20 PM

Today I received an update notice for my One Vision.

I'm currently on version PSA29.137-17-4 and the update is PSA29.160-50.

The update process hangs at step 2 of 6. The incedibly specific error message I'm getting is: "Something's not right. Reconnecting to server...". The pulldown menu entry additionally states "background system installation paused".

I live in Germany (wich is also where I bought the phone) and I am using WiFi to update the device. I've been getting this error for at least 12 hours now, even after multiple restarts of the device.

What can I do so I can continue with the update for my phone?

Hi exit_failure,

Thanks for posting. Try updating your phone using the Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant (LMSA). Let us know if you are able to update your phone.

Here is the download link: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291

Here is another link for the instructions: http://motorola-global-en-roe.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/140571/~/download-and-manually-update-via-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant

Will this delete any information stored on my phone or does this work like an update through the standard procedure?

Hi exit_failure,

The upgrade will not delete the information on your phone it will only act as a manual update. Only the "Rescue" function will reset the phone since it will reflash the android software. Here is another link on the other functions of the app: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht102605#3.3.1

So that worked. Thank you very much.
I really hope I don't have have to do that every time an update is available.
Could you maybe shed any light on why the update didn't work with the built in functionality?

Hi exit_failure,

I am not sure what was the exact cause of the software update failure. But based on the error message you got the phone may have trouble with connecting/downloading the update from the source.
