Okay quick update: apparently the one action and the one macro (and presumably all Moto phones running the same software) has this issue with the display.

Yeesh. I've had 3 Moto-G's, I thought I was safe switching to another family within the same manufacturer!

Soooo .. Android 10 just arrived. Seeing as it's a little late and moto have been pretty quiet on here, I was kinda hoping "our" bug got noticed and included as something they wanted to address in this update.

And I do think they've done something, results are a little inconclusive but the YT app clearly darkens the picture after you rotate the phone into fullscreen. The Phillip Bloom FX9 clips: the brick wall behind the dancer no longer clips, but I do feel like maybe her face is still a tiny bit clipped. Maybe.

Looked at a vimeo clip (in a webview I think, not their app) and I can again see the brightness dropping after you rotate the phone.

The upshot is that the highlights are not clipping BUT SOME DETAIL IS NOW BEING LOST IN THE DARKER AREAS!!

It's better than the "iBlue" workaround, I guess, but a long way from fixed. Might be time to return this phone and get a G8+

Yep. You're right. They've replaced the weird gamma curve (or whatever) with an even worse curve that crushes the blacks and still somewhat f_ed up whites.
I've given up at this point. It's Lenovo after all.

Also on a different note, the touch panel they use is kinda **bleep**. It doesn't support multi touch for over 3 fingers and the response latency is awful.

multitouch - not true - I've traced five fingers simultaneously (built-in diagnostics with LMSA). the latency was not bad either.

Motorola, I also really hopped that this bug is going to be fixed!

How many months we have to wait to remove this strange software effect in YouTube app and few other players?

This is the first phone in my life that do this and I really don't understand the reason for that!

This awful effect force me to use YouTube app only in portrait mode and never in landscape.

Common, MATT, please do something and report it to department responsible for it!

I don't know, it might be just my unit but it acts funky when more than 3 fingers are touching the display.
About the slow response time, try downloading any piano/drum app and playing it.
