VPN broken on One Vision after August 2019 security patch

Not sure if the patch is the reason - I had 2 connections which worked, but around same time as I got the patch, I cannot connect using the VPNs any more. No error message given, and my servers do not show errors, so I guess the problem is on the phone.

 

I connect against a German FritzBox device, which is a WLAN router.

Anybody with same problem or can you confirm VPN still works for you?

Hi Bruno,

I am using different VPNs (mostly OpenVPN sometimes StrongSwan IPsec) and they still work after the August Sec update.
Maybe some old Ciphers have been deleted with the new security patch and your Fritz!Box is still using them? Have you tried to connect to any other VPN to see if it still works in general or if it's relted to the FB?

Hello mfbo, thank you for your answer.

 

I connect to 2 different fritz boxes, and both fail. I deleted the connection setting and set it up again, without success. There is also no error message on the fritz boxes, so I assume there is a problem connecting the boxes from the phone. It stopped working without config changes on the phone or on the boxes, and the boxes got NO software updates, and they are on different providers using different network technology. 

So it might be a change on my One Vision, which got the August patch. I do not use the VPN very often, so the exact day of failure is unknown.

I will wait for the next security update and hope for improvments. Had the same problem with an older BQ device some years ago...

 

If somebody has similar problems, we can again check if there are similarities.

Hi Bruno, habe exactly the same Problem. Vpn to fritzbox 6490 doesnt work anymore on one Vision Like you said. Other device =work without any Problem..

Do you have a solution?

Hi again.

 

If you could give some additional help, we are eager to take a look at this.

 

First, can you provide as much detail as you can about the VPN software, settings, etc.?

 

Second, can anyone provide a bug report? I promise it's not as complex as it looks!

 

1. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Tap on Build number 7 times on the build number to go into the developer options mode]
2. After the above steps, Developer options will be enabled.
3. Go to Settings ->Developer options -> Enable USB debugging > Toggle On
4. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Bug Report shortcut > Toggle On
5. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging > Toggle On
6. Once the issue is reproduced, Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power down menu.
7. Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.
8. Then upload the BugReport to your personal Google Drive and then share the link to the BugReport via an email to supportforums@motorola.com. Please link back to this thread and refer to it in the email.
9. Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the time that you observed the behavior in local time.

Also, please provide your Wifi Make, Model, security type, and band 2.4 or 5ghz, if possible.

We appreciate your report. Along with the bug report we're asking, can you please provide more information about VPN configuration of your router/phone - what VPN client app used? We'd like to replicate this.

Hi ,

 

Here also the same problem. VPN using Fritzbox stopped working on my motorola one vision !!

Same VPN config still works on my old Phone !!

 

On my new motorola vision i get imediatly ( within less than a second) the message " failed"  when i try to connect.

It occurs both when i connect via WIFI and when i try to connect via 4G

 

Anyone a solution ??

 

Or is there a possibilty to roll back this update on my phone ?
