WiFi drops out regularly

2019-06-22, 14:00 PM

Hi, got my new Moto one vision a couple of days ago and I've run into a pretty big issue with WiFi disconnecting.

What seems to happen is whenever I use my WiFi it will disconnect both WiFi and Bluetooth headphones for a second and then it will come back, meaning I can always reconnect straight away. It can happen after just a few seconds or it can take like 10 minutes before it happens. Every time WiFi and Bluetooth disconnects at exactly the same time. I've tested listening to music stored on my phone (so not streaming) and it's working ok. If I stream music through Spotify the issue still occurs, but it seems to happen more often if I use for example YouTube which uses more bandwidth.

I've also tested:

Using only WiFi and no Bluetooth: the problem is still present

Using only Bluetooth and no internet connected: I was not able to reproduce it.

Using mobile data instead of wifi, with and without Bluetooth: I was not able to reproduce it.

Disabling the Sim card: The issue is still present.

I'm thinking that since Bluetooth and wifi disconnects at the same time it's probably not something with my router, since that wouldn't explain why it happens with Bluetooth...

I've generated a bug report that I can send in case it's needed.

Update: I've found that the problem is not present when I'm running in safe mode. I thought this could mean that the issue is due to a third party app, but I've even tried a factory reset and I still have the problem before installing anything.

So I'm on another wifi now, and so far I haven't had the problem, which is very weird to me since it was affecting bluetooth also.

This helped me too

Thanks for all these details. It does seem to be app-related, since you can't reproduce it in Safe Mode. I can't quite tell if you are still in need of help, since it's not clear if you are going back to the old wifi network where it was problematic. Let me know please.

Thanks,

- Matt

Well, if it's only that one wifi network, I can live with it... If it affects other wifi networks it's definitely still something I want to resolve, but I can't know that yet.

What app could it be if I still have the issue after doing a factory reset? Meaning I did a factory reset, then I did nothing else than connect to wifi and bluetooth headphones, and opening a youtube video in chrome. Shouldn't this in theory recreate the same environment as you have when running in safe mode?

There have been some recent security code changes in Chrome which were pushed silently to users.  Try disabling and removing Chrome, then reinstall it. Clear memory cache and reboot the device.

Thanks, I will try this the next time I can use that network, in a few days.

I can't 100% confirm since I didn't get to test for a very long time, but it seemed to be fixed when I disabled Chrome and used Chrome Beta instead.
