Fingerprint reader not work

Hello, after Android 10 update I'm getting more and more errors with fingerprint reading and this is becoming very annoying, so annoying that sometimes I'm tempted to get rid of this feature. I haven't changed anything else (like protective glass) and I've tried several times to register again the fingerprint.

Does anybody experience the same issue? Is there any way to test the reader to understand if it's defective?

I understand the fingerprint reader under the screen cannot be compared with the standard one I had on Moto X4 for example, but this way is at least useless if not worse.

I second this, the reader takes AGES and often just doesn't recognize a finger print until the 5th attempt.

Basically I keep putting the finger on the sensor without moving it and the phone continue giving me failed attempt each time until I don't get the final error and the unlock sequence is requested. Cleaning the screen sometimes helps, but most of the times doesn't. This is very annoying especially when I'm in a hurry.

This happened also with Android 9 sometimes but with 10 happens continuously.

Any suggestion?

Yes, I have also noticed that the fingerprint reader is not as accurate since upgrading to 10. I find that pressing very softly can help, but it still faces way more errors than it used to. This is one of several issues my Zoom has experienced since the upgrade.

Hi all,

 

Thanks for reporting this. I would suggest you remove all of your fingerprints and re-register then leave it for a couple of days. Let the fingerprints adjust with the new software.

 

Let me know if you don't see any improvements after 3-4 days.

Hi, I removed all the fingerprints and re-added them and then waited a week as suggested but nothing changed. 

Basically, it seems that the application doesn't start or read the fingerprint properly at all, no matter what finger you are using or how many attempts you perform (4 is the maximum, if I remember correctly). Then if you enter the sequence, everything seems to work for a while. 

Anyway I have some good news to share since I may have spotted where the issue actually is: in the smart lock function. I had Home set as safe location for smart lock and also the functionality that keeps the phone unlocked if you are carrying it with you. Disabling all smart lock features now I don't get any more fingerprint reading failures, even using other applications that use fingerprint, other than unlock phone feature, I mean.

Is it possible that the issue is related with Smart Lock function and, if yes, can the issue be fixed in any way? I will keep the feature disabled meanwhile but it would be great if I can get it reset and working again.

Glad to know it's working fine. Yes, it could be because of smart lock was enabled. Would like to inform you that it's not an issue. You can disable the smart lock and use it for more info on Smart lock please follow the mentioned link here
