How can I take 48 mp photos?

2020-07-13, 18:09 PM

I am fully aware that Moto One Zoom by default downsizes the photos from the main back camera to 12 MP (or only 9 MP if you take 16:9 pictures).

But some places on the internet I really got the impression, that you can also take 48 mp pictures, if you like to.  Eg. here on this home page it only tells about the 48 mp (full) without mentioning the 12 mp standard:

I have searched the phone and the internet for days without finding out how to take 48 mp pictures on the phone without any success. I simply do not get the option when it comes to the rear camera as when I eg uses the selfie camera and get the option to actually take 25 mp pictures with it.

So my questions are these:

  1. Is it at all possible to take 48 mp pictures with a Moto One Zoom? (Or is it just a sales scam to get people like me to buy the phone)
  2. In case it is possible (I really hope so): How do I switch to 48 mp mode to take actual 48 mp pictures?

I installed an app called Camera MX and the max available resolution is 12MP. I don't think the sensor is reporting 48MP as a capability. It is basically a 12 MP sensor ...

The Moto One Zoom has a 48mp quad-pixel camera. Basically it takes images at 4 times the resolution, then scales it down for sharper/clearer images. Newer phones do this and techniques like pixel binning to produce higher quality photos. So basically a 48 mp quad-pixel camera will take 12 megapixel photos.
