Initial Software Performance

2019-09-27, 17:50 PM

All in all, I'm quite pleases with the out of box experience with the Motorola One Zoom. I was quickly up and running with all my apps.

I am experiencing intermittent freeze ups with the UI that lasts only about 30 seconds or so. Resetting the phone seems to solve the problem for a day and then it starts up again. Most of the time it's not a big issue, but really stinks when I can't answer the phone.

Is anyone else experiencing this with the UI or could one of my apps be the culprit?

I am experiencing same problem. Would be good if Motorola came with solution, it is pretty shame that brand new phone, which I have been using for 3 days, froze 6 times already, from which 1 time rebooted. For this phone prize it is unacceptable performance. Please help.

Hi TXdrewvalalolo,

Thanks for the report. That's odd. How often do you experience this? Did you restore your backup from your previous phone to your Moto One Zoom right away? First, please make sure you have all the apps up to date in Play Store. Check if you have system updates as well (Settings > System > Advanced > System Update).

Best regards,

Hi Rich, I haven't been notified of any updates in the US yet. Still running the July 19 Android patch. The only items I migrated were my call logs, texts and pictures. Everything else was installed from Google play. I also have a 256GB micro SD card installed. I hope this info helps track down the glitch. Please advise.

Hi TXdrew,

Thanks for your response. Hmm, let's try isolating this. Please update your profile with the current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Need help updating your profile? See here

Try clearing the Moto App Launcher's data (Settings > Apps > touch 3 vertical dots > Show System > Moto App Launcher > Storage > Clear Storage). Let me know if that helps.

Best regards,
Rich

Profile up to date. Cleared the Moto App Launcher's storage. Note - this resets your home screen layout!

No freeze ups since. Will update again tomorrow.

Hi.

Can you please make sure your Motorola Privacy settings are set to share? Also, can both of you respond here with permission to look at your apps? Sometimes there are clues there.

I want to confirm the details, and get more info. Intermittent stuff is hard to diagnose.

  • The phone becomes unresponsive for about 30 seconds.
    • Does this mean it doesn't respond to touch? Will the screen turn off or volume change with the physical buttons?
    • Is there any specific activity happening when this occurs? Downloading, streaming media, etc.?
  • "Resetting" solves it for a period of time.
    • Does this mean you simply turn it off and back on?
    • If you don't turn it off an on after a freeze, do the freezes then become more frequent? Once they start, do they escalate?

Thanks! I will probably be asking you to generate and share a bug report after this happens again, but if I can get answers to these things first, that will help.

Appreciate your reporting this - we want to figure it out.

- Matt

Hello Matt,

I finally found Motorola Privacy under the System settings and enabled sharing. Yes, you have my permission to look at my apps.

When the phone becomes unresponsive:

 - the screen is not responsive to touch (usually how I know it's happening)

 - the volume buttons are not responsive (on the screen at lease)

 - the power button sometimes blanks the screen, but not always

 - does not seem to interfere with background tasks

 - does not seem to be linked to any specific app or task

Powering the phone off and than back on solves the problem for a while (about a day). If I don't restart the phone, the problem persists and occures at irregular intervals. Sometimes under heavy load, but other times with only 1 or 2 apps open. It feels like a memory leak (from past experience).
